Topic Dog Boards / General / collar repair?
- By Ida [gb] Date 02.08.12 21:15 UTC
We've just been camping with Maggie-May - we haven't been for a while and forgot lots of things...hair-brush, tea, coffee.....but fortunately we did think to take a spare dog collar, which was just as well as Maggie, tethered, suddenly saw something of interest that took her fancy, and off she went. :-( .  I picked up the lead, and called her back, only to discover she was now collarless  :-( .  The stitching on her leather half-check collar had given way.

The leather itself is fine, so I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get it restitched, or whether it's time to invest in a new one. Should I try a shoe repairers, or perhaps a saddlers?

Try a saddler as you want it hand sewn really (much stronger than machine) - I'd say post it to me but I'm not sure if the postage would make it not really worth the cost of doing it (I'd probably charge £10 as under that its not worth me trekking to the workshop and back!).

I and now my hubby regularly restitch our collars, check them every year and redo if needed.

We buy Wenzel, and wax it, light a candle, and run the thread through the molten wax and then rub the wax while still warm into it, or use liquid beeswax.

You can buy thick needles.

Thanks to all of you for your helpful suggestions, collar is now in the process of being repaired. :-)
