Topic Dog Boards / Health / pretty worried out my lil Man!
- By dollface Date 01.08.12 12:07 UTC
As you all know my dane cross is in heat and started
On the 18th of July.
Junior now all he does is whine, he does not stop.
The poor boy has gone off his food completely,
I have even offered canned food & nothing.
Should I be worried? Due to his age a lil over 12 yrs
I am worried he might get sick. Moose attacks him
If he tries anything, I have him on leash when walking
To the door so no funny business.
How long do you figure I have before everything is
back to normal & he is eating? Should I be worried that
he is not eating, will his appetite kick in? Hubby says not
To worry but I can't help it, the crying OMG! Lol
I really feel sorry for him :-(
Yes they are kenneled in different areas so they don't
see eachother but that does not help at all.

Thankyou & look forward to ur replies

My lad was the same through the first bitch to be in season at home, I tried sending him to stay with my Mum but after 3 days he was back, he lost loads of weight but soon got it back after the season was over.

I tried tablets and spray for the bitch and even Vicks Vapour Rub on his chest and her tail but nothing worked till someone on a forum mentioned Vanilla Extract[not essence] I put some on his nose and chest and a tissue soaked in it pushed through the bars of his crate when confined, I am sick of the smell by the end but it makes for a quieter happier household.

I also found that after that first time his anxiety only lasted for the period that the bitch would be "ready" so about 7-10days not the whole 21 days.

The joys of having dogs.

You might find that kennelling them next to each other causes him less stress. I know it seems illogical, but although he will know that he can't get to her, he'll also be able to see that no-one else is either. My entire lad was much calmer when he was right next to his daughter when she was in season and he would eat his meal in his crate next to her. Luckily for all concerned it doesn't last long.

Maybe worth a try?

No help here, and one reason I keep one sex only.  Most peopel I knwo prefer not to have the in season bitch adn entire males on the smae premises if at all possible.

Is there anyone who would look after your boy for at least two more weeks.

I wish I had someone to look after him that would be awesome- but sadly no I don't.

Moose def was not a planned puppy- she would of ended up at the humane society reason why we got her.
1st time ever dog owner, new nothing about dogs and decided she was just to much.
I also don't want to spay her before she is mature so am dealing with her heats until then :-(

Actually I was suppose to be getting a lil cane corso male puppy but- long storey, but do still keep
in touch with the breeders they are lovely people.

Junior will still eat his treats- but don't like to offer that to much cause that's all he'll eat the bratt!
I keep food in his kennel at all times & water- he has been drinking so thats good. Couple more
weeks I guess till he is no longer interested- Oooh boy!

Junior actually ate something yesterday- it was almost like he did not no he had food there. I put some in my hand and he
gobbled it up fast- showed him the dish that has been hanging on his kennel and did he chow down- lol you would think I
was starving the poor boy.. He still seems interested in Moose but does not whine at all anymore which is AweSome!!
She isn't bleeding as much as she was- am thinking she is almost done with her heat. Hoping so! Of course will not let them
together for def a good month so about 14 more days- or until Junior shows no interest. Let him out to pee and any chance he gets
he runs to her to mount but she tells him off real fast!

A couple more to go of these and were done lol Now I no what to pretty much expect for next time- Oh the Joy!! lol
