Topic Dog Boards / General / Virus Attack Saturday Night (locked)
- By Jan bending Date 31.07.12 08:01 UTC
I replied to a post on the General board at around 8.30 pm Saturday 28 July. The OP was about a dog on dog attack in a park. The dogs involved were a Doberman and a GSD. The OP included a video clip. Approx half an hour later I went back to the forum to check the response to my post. The OP had been removed and there was a red warning to that effect. My screen then went down and a scan warning appeared, purportedly from the Metropolitan Police informing me that I had been on a forbidden site , that my computer had been locked and that I had to pay £ 100 to unlock it. Payment details were provided. Of course I did not send any money and I guess that whoever sent the virus was hoping that someone would be daft enough to send money and bank details. This was extremely disturbing . How can Champdogs prevent this happening again? We had virus protection on the computer but it clearly did not prevent the  virus attack. Were other members affected ? My computer has been sorted out at great cost !!!
I will be concerned that this could happen again. I wrote to Leigh but have not yet received a reply.

That is worrying, I didn't go back to that post again till the following morning, by which time it was gone.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 31.07.12 08:18 UTC
I replied to that post too, but didn't get any message or computer problem.

It could have been the link that could have caused it.

Nothing would surprise me about Denis' links (and if anyone has any doubts about who 'Hethspaw' really is, that video proves it once and for all; how many people call their dobermann 'Thingy'?), but I watched most of the video as well.

This is quite shocking! Didn't see the thread in question, thank goodness.

Did "Hethspaw" start the thread and who is Denis?
- By LJS Date 31.07.12 08:50 UTC
Remember the post now but never click on any of the links he posts as it is mostly verbal diarrhoea in the couple I have had the misfortune to watch :-)

Yes, Hethspaw started the thread. His real name is Denis and he's been banned from this site very many times under different names for his trouble-making; he was banned from another, unmoderated usually no-holds-barred forum, for posting obscene images to a 13 year old girl. He's an advocate of prong-collars and shock collars, and really rates himself as dog trainer, yet the videos he posts on Youtube (which are generally removed after complaints from the public) prove that he's nothing of the sort.

Is there any way this person can be blocked from this site ? I haven't been posting on Champdogs for very long and was unaware of these issues. Attaching a virus, which I assume he did , is a serious development .

Much as I would like to blame Denis :) can you be sure of that?  Could it just be a coincidence?
I am not particularly computer savvie so don't know what is possible but I looked at the link, which was to Youtube and watched the absurd video and nothing has happened to me, well not that I know of
We haven't seen anything of him since so maybe has been banned as the video, apart from being ridiculous and showing him up as a very irresponsible owner and poor "trainer", portrayed the poor man who was so upset at the attact on his dog as comparable with Hitler!

I think that's probably beyond Denis' capabilities.

I've had Hethspaw on ignore for ages.  Along with others who have rejoined after being removed.
- By cavlover Date 31.07.12 12:06 UTC
Oh dear, good riddance to him then!
- By Jan bending Date 31.07.12 12:41 UTC
Well, perhaps it was coincidental and cyber terrorism is beyond his capabilities.  Nevertheless, I'm still nervous about responding to posts.

OMG, I knew the guy was a complete wazzock, didn't realise about the 13 year old !.....what a creep.

Although most of us have this person on ignore I am alarmed that he is once again a member being allowed to drip his mindless theories into the forums archives.

I am the OP and I was not affected, this is first I heard about it. Its not necessarily to do with any current site, it might be malaware lodged on your PC from anywhere net at any time, including your email.

For those who missed the vid here's the link.

What site was the video hosted on? This sort of thing is very rarely down to the website that you are actually on, usually more to do with stuff that is embedded (Videos, flash adverts etc etc) or even more commonly, malware/adware that has infected your system and is displaying itself in such a way.

What antivirus programs are you using?

Youtube, I use avast virus scan & I occasionaly get a malaware warning when its blocked something, not often but it's happened from time to time.
- By Stooge Date 31.07.12 19:16 UTC
I doubt the virus was connected myself.  It's just the video that's nasty and I don't know why Denis would post it as it makes him look the fool.
