Hi,

On saturday I rescused a Boxer Puppy which had been neglected and mistreated.

Therefore I am appealing for any help and advice anyone can give on the care a Boxer needs.

I am taking her to the vets today for a health check up.

She was wormed and flead on Saturday, but if there is anything else I need to know please let me know.

She is approximately 8 months old
White
Underweight
and has possibly been attacked by another dog.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Charlie

Good luck with poor soul - she's lucky to have someone to care for her. Being white it's possible she may be deaf; unfortunately this isn't something your vet can tell you for certain because it need specialist equipment, but it's something to be aware of. If she does have hearing problems you'll need to learn how to train her with sign language, so it's quite important to know about the possibility.

Time and patience is probably going to be the big thing.  Some dogs just bounce back from bad situations but some need time to come out of their shells and learn to trust.

It might be worth just giving her a few days at least to settle in before taking her for walks, let her calm down from the stress of the changes that are happening.

Do you know who the breeder was so you can let them know the pup is now with you.

Hopefully her hearing isn't affected and she hasn't been badly scarred psychologically from the the treatment in her first home.

If you have no vaccination history then you will need to start from scratch before you take her out and about to be socialised, get her used to a lead in the house and then in the garden before venturing farther afield as she will be too big to carry.

I hope she settles in well with you.

If she is underweight, stressed and in poor condition, vaccination would be the last thing to be considering as only healthy animals should be vaccinated - according even to the vaccine manufacturers themselves(!).
