Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Natural Instinct question

Does anyone here feed Natural Instinct? The food comes in 0.5 or 1kg tubs. Do you have to defrost it all at once? I have a small breed and one tub should do a good few days, I don't want to waste any. I am used to Prize Choice free flow mince and I can just take out how much I need for that day, would like to be able to do the same with the NI. I would like to give it a try but don't want to commit to a 5kg order if I will end up wasting a lot of it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you defrost it in the fridge the middle bit takes longer to defrost, so if you take a couple of portions from the edge as it defrosts it should last a few days in the fridge. As you've only got a small breed I'd order the 0.5kg tubs and it says on the packs that once defrosted it can be kept in the fridge for 4 days. I don't have this problem as my lot go through 2kg a day! It's a great food.

Thanks Pedlee :) 4 days should be fine to get through a 0.5 tub. 2 kg per day! You must have a massive freezer! I have a small chest freezer in the garage for the dogs and I sometimes struggle with space in that. I really want to try the puppy weaning food for the babies (10 days old already so need to get organised) but seen as I have to order minimum 5Kg, thought I would get some for the adults too. I will put in an order tomorrow. Thanks again.

I weaned a litter last year on the puppy weaning food and was very happy with how the pups developed, no upset tums and steady weight gain. Good luck, I'm sure all your dogs and the pups will enjoy it.

I feed my two Natural Instinct - particularly if I'm away and my partner has to do the meals as it is easy for him without measuring mince, offal and veg separately. The quality is excellent and I have always found that it keeps well as the middle takes quite a long time to defrost. Not that ours has to last longer than 2 days, but I'm sure it could. There is never the slightest suspicion of an 'off' smell.

Thanks Pedlee & Trishm, put my order in on Sunday night and it arrived today. Very impressed with the service and packaging - it was still frozen solid. Just another week or so until I start to wean the little ones. I am sure they will love it.
