Hi everyone. My girl is on day 49. She she was scanned on day 28, and confirmed pregnant. My concern is she is hardly eating and being very very picky with her food. She refuses puppy food, wet or dry, she refuses adult food. She is refusing to eat from her bowl and will only eat if we feed her. She is refusing whelpi and goats milk, she is drinking plenty of water. She will not nibble on anything until after 3pm. Even though i know this i am offering her food every 2 hrs.   I have offered her - Chicken( which i cook for her everyday), Salmon,Tuna,Ham (tinned and thinly sliced) Mince,Bacon,Scrambled egg (mixed with the above) Boiled Rice,Steak,Hotdogs,Corned Beef,Beefburgers,Mackrel, Pasta (which she absolutly adores) the list could go on and on ! She is excepting small amounts of the above, 1 min she takes it then she turns her face away and refuses it 2 hrs later, so i offer her something different and she takes it, then refuses that later on. It is not large amounts either, what is baffling me is she will not refuse her doggie chocs, what ever the time of day it is, and would happily eat them all day i suspect, if we get the choc biscuits out, she just stares at us, comes over and parks herself next to who ever has the biscuits until she gets 1 ! She is well in herself and her pregnancy is going well. Im concerned for her and her babys. I have bought some "protect and build" from Fit and Fertile, i have to give it her by syringe as she will not willingly drink it, she is sick a few seconds after giving her this . I just do not know what to do next. She is visiting the vet tonight for a check up. Some people i have spoke to think i have spoiled her, too much choice ? Im worried if she carrys on like this that she will not have any milk when her babys arrive.

She feels 'green', I remember it well!

Feeling like that you want to find the one thing which tempts you.

Hopefully she will improve as she gets closer to term and you can establish a good feeding routine because its AFTER whelping they can get very fussy for a few days.

My bitch was exactly the same Jenny, you're not alone. She wouldn't eat anything, every day would be a new quest, once I fed her scrambled eggs with smoked salmon!!! But this set off colitis and actually made things worse for her. I kept thinking to myself 'How can she be nourishing herself and her babies on such little food?' but somehow she did it, I hand fed her puppy kibble and chicken and after they were born she wolfed down food again, though she was ever so thin for a while, especially peak lactation (around 3 weeks).

Just wantd to add, normally said bitch is a greedy little minx, much more so than my other two!!!

All sounds familiar to me!  I worked out years ago that they do it to turn us grey prematurely.  It's our fault they're in this mess, so we have to be punished.

I thought one bitch in particular would starve to death.  She went on 9 meals a day after whelping, and when pups were weaned, she was heavier than her pre-pregnancy weight.

I wouldn't give her stuff to "help" her that was being brought back up.  I would however, continue to make a fool of myself, offering her best steak mince, chicken, fish etc.  as what she does eat will help with her calcium.

Easy for me to say - but try not to worry.  Because a lot of us have found out that the bitch won't die of starvation.  :-)

Do offer goats milk after whelping to help with her milk production, as, although they need decent quantities of fluids, a lot of bitches will turn their nose up at plain water after whelping.
