Topic Dog Boards / Health / ? Eye infection

Pup has a had a bit of green goo in the corner of her eye this morning.
I cleaned it with sterile water and it hasn't reappeared again yet.
Now the question is this, if it was one of my kids I would buy some Golden Eye and try that for 24 - 48 hours before running off to the docs. I am sure that I have read on here of people using it on dogs so is it OK to try for a day or is it straight for a vet visit ?
Thanks in advance.

Don't risk eyes if it is the same in the morning go to the vet who will give you some medication for the eye and keep check that there is no ulceration.

Euphrasia tincture is something I use daily for one of our dogs, 2 drops is a small container (sterilised) topped up with cooled boiled water, keep in the fridge & bathe eyes 3 times a day.
I have used Golden eye ointment in the past & did ask about it sometime ago (sorry can't find the link) but I though it was mentioned that the ingredients had changed & shouldn't be used. Here are some older links http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/board/topic/10150.html
Green discharge from the eye is not healthy sign & I'd see your vet. Good luck.

I agree, clear it today but if it's back tomorrow then check with your vet.  At this time of year it can be something as simple as an allergic reaction or an accumulation of dust BUT eyes are too sensitive to risk infection.

For future reference my vet said if you check the goo and it has particles in it (grit usually) then it's most likely the eye ejecting a foreign object.  If the goo is strongly  coloured or has nothing in it that you can see with the naked eye, then you need to consider an infection or damage to the eye.

I use saline to wash the eye (I have contact lenses so generally keep some in for my use as well as the dogs!), then watch to see if it reoccurs within 12 -24 hours.

Our ferret had that and she needed drops- which helped :-)
