Topic Dog Boards / Health / Could this be due to her heat?

She Woke us up last night around 1am to go outside. Then this morning I woke up
to her supper in her kennel- she puked it all up. So at 4:30 am I washing dog bedding and
cleaning her kennel. She seems a little off this morning not her usual self.
I have not offered breakfast as of yet I do that at 6am so I'll see if she is excited for that.
When she was outside ate some grass and puked that up about a half hr later.

Her supper was as usual her kibble with some dehydrated food in it so i add water. I offered her some broccoli,
cauliflower and some lettuce mix, a quarter of an apple. she had that yesterday and was fine. I do that once in
awhile the fruits and the veggies. They all seem to really enjoy that.

She came into heat on the 18th. Maybe I am being worried over nothing but just thought I'd ask. Kinda scary after reading
stuff on pyro :-(

Yes, it could be due to being in season but also the hot weather we are having recently. I am almost certain that dry food is not supposed to have water added, just access to water.

Edited to say..opps just realised your not in the UK...

Dry food can be fed dry, moistened or totally rehydrated. In all cases there should always be access to clean water.

I always rehydrate it because I know of dalmatians that have died of bloat and I'm not going to increase the risk.

I'm another who would never, ever feed dry food dry -far too dangerous. Just soak it and watch and you will see how much bigger it gets, If fed dry that swelling will take place inside the stomach, making the stomach acids work overtime and the stomach possibly expand.

Thank you :-)

She gets dry food for breakfast, just don't have time to do the mixture so they get that at supper time.

We took her to the vet and she said it def could be due to her heat, some dogs puke, some go off their food,
get moody, and the list goes on lol We are to give her some keopectate to help with the runs.

She said to def watch her and of course if she keeps vomiting to bring her back- so if it continues will def
take her back by Friday. She said to offer her about 2 table spoons of food, wait an hr and maybe offer a little more.
I gave her about a table spoon of canned dogfood and a frozen piece of pumpkin. Will offer her some dehydrated
chicken food which I add water to or maybe add a lil kibble into it and see how she does.

Since she is still bleeding then she has an open cervix which is good- so don't think its pyro but would be hard
to tell- just to keep a close eye on her and if she gets where she is getting worse then def run back. Now just
down to watch her.

Yes it has been very hot here lately and also humid- today actually is pretty cool which is nice.

Thanks any more idea's is very welcome :-)

Update:

I gave her 2 table spoon full twice yesterday- then moved it to 4 twice yesterday.
She kept everything down no puke in the kennel which was great to see.
She had about 1/2 cup at 4:30am and I am gonna offer another half a cup at 6am.
Hubby will give her some more at 11am.
Then I'll do the same for supper. If she holds this all down then tomorrow I'll offer her a cup at 4:30am and another
cup at 6am which she totally gets 2 cups twice a day. I have added water and soaked it as well.
Of course depends on the dog food I am feeding.
Fingers crossed she is back to normal by Saturday.

She def seems a lil bi***y with Junior at the moment and going through her not listening very good
anymore lol Kinda like PMS for dogs hahah But all in all glad to see she seems to be getting back to
her happy self.

Also think T-Bone showed her that pigeon poo is good- maybe that could of put her off,
we try to get to it before they do- damn pigeons they are so messy- have to finish doing
the netting to keep them off our roof. Thank goodness I have them on deworming pills.

My girl is in as well and i was realy worried when i woke up to find she had had dorihia in her creat (and managed to get some out the door onto the living room floor for good measure) but her breeder told me her mother get it when she is in season too. Only had the one case that bad but has had a few lose ones since.
Ive read that if they get it pyro commanly happens about 1-2 months after season. So i will be in a panic then hoping she doesnt get it.
