Not sure if this is the right place for the thread but here goes.

I noticed a neighbour has a new staffy today, it looks like an adult. I saw him in the street with it and heard it making a bit of a commotion (barky/growly type racket). Just now I saw the bloke out in the street with it again, this time muzzled. He was chatting to another neighbour, each time the staffy tried to rub his muzzle off, he got a 'pop' on the lead.
I came away form the window to tell my OH what was going on and said I was going to go out & give them some friendly pointers, he told me to mind my own business - I though that was fair enough, I doubt it would have been appreciated for me to go out and try to offer some advice.

Next thing is they have a yorkie with them, each time the staffy lunged at the yorkie it got a hard 'pop' on the lead and a foot 'tap' - CM style (one with enough force to move the dogs back end sideways). They then got the staffy to sit and started shoving the yorkie towards it, when the staffy finally couldn't ignore the yorkie any longer and lunged, it got slapped around the face with enough force to take it's front legs off the floor. Then they marched both the dogs down the road.

I found my OH and told him, I am shaking with rage for the stupidity of the man and upset for the poor staffy (the little yorkie wasn't very happy either), and feel really bad for not storming outside to help the staffy but then I don't think that would have done any good :( :( :(

What to do???? I'm looking for my camera batteries so if I see them outside 'training' again I can film it, so I have something concrete to report to the RSPCA, as it is, it would be my word against 2 other people. Would the RSPCA be interested?

The lad that looks like he owns the staffy is not a trouble maker, he's always been polite, if I see him when I take Buster out  (we walk past their house) and I feel like I can be polite myself (grrr, I'm fuming ) I may have a little word about how stupid using CM methods are.

What goes on in peoples heads???? Why on earth would giving a dog - a dog that has been developed for the purpose of dog fighting - a slap & a kick, suddenly make it a dog-friendly animal???????

If he is a reasonable lad I would go and chat to him just start by saying Ohh what a lovely dog etc etc then start to ask about his background etc ( which will prob be negative hence why the aggression ) then talk about some of the positive ways he can address it and just approach the dangers of the way he has being doing it and the possible consequences.

Be polite friend and non confrontational about what he has been doing and hopefully he should listen :-)

If your neighbour is like mine then be wary,in the 25 yrs I have lived here they have had 4 Rotties and one Bull Terrier[one dog at a time], none of them seem to have a long life, all have spent 99% of the time in an area 3ft by 8ft just out side their back door,they very rarely took them out but after dark would let the Rotties out to roam free and unattended, I used to come home from a late shift to see eyes glowing in my drive,they would then move between the car and my back door and not allow me to pass so I would have to go round and in the front, three times I asked them to keep their dog off my property, I just got a torrent of bad language and then I reported it to the dog warden,they said the dog area was rather small for size of breed but there was a shelter of sorts and no major problem she could see, she left a message asking them not to let the dog out unaccompanied but it fell on deaf ears.

Woe betide if any of the dogs got in the house, the male owner would start shouting abuse and from the yelps I heard he must have done something physically to them too, the other members of the family would let them in when he was out at work but he would sometimes come home early and all hell would break loose. I have never come across someone who every word uttered is shouted and consists of mainly swear words like my neighbour, the family must dread him coming home.

I am not keen on large dogs or the ones that the local yobs have as status symbols and wander around in gangs which the police see but do nothing about.

Good Luck educating your neighbour,it was a staffy that killed the litter mate of one of my girls when she was only 10 months old, they had bought this 2 yr old bitch, their daughter wanted one, against advice from fellow dachsie breeders and in less than a week the dachsie was dead, I don't hold out much hope for the Yorkie if the staffy gets hold of it after being taunted and punished in the past.

Me neither, seems they were either baiting it for fighting or trying to stop aggression, one of the two, that yorkies living a nightmare.....well.... for a little while.

Oh my gosh Rhodach, what an utter nightmare! How frightening to have loose rotties stopping you get to your door, that is terrible.

Thanks LJS, I will be nice & friendly if I bump into him. The lad looks like he wants to help the dog, he just obviously hasn't a clue how to go about it the right way and does not realise the dangers of CM style 'training'.

Hethspaw, by the look of it, they were trying to 'teach' the staffy to ignore the yorkie. :(
I don't know which dog was more terrified, the yorkie or the  staffy.
The yorkie kept trying to hide behind the blokes legs and the poor staffy didn't have a clue what was wanted from it, it looked very confused and worried :(

I'm not sure which bloke the yorkie belonged to. The lad with the staffy lives with his parents who own a yorkie and, I think, the other bloke (who was doing the slapping and foot 'taps') also owns a yorkie.

Is there a chance he could just be looking after it for somebody on holiday maybe and just can't control it properly. Just a thought. Hope it's all sorted - It is upsetting when you see somebody treating an animal in completely the wrong way.

There's a thought arched, thanks. I hadn't thought of that. Maybe he is just looking after the staffy, it would be nice to think the staffy does have an understanding owner somewhere.
