Could anyone please tell me if you need a pet passport if you are bringing a dog into the U.K from the Republic of Ireland,or if you can travel without?The dog is IKC reg'd and microchipped and up to date with the jabs,thanks.

Technically yes, but in practise there have been no checks and restrictions of travel of pets between ireland and UK.

Well it has only been an issue since January first 2012, as we have all had to come in line with rest of EU.

Going to France in April,my dog and myself never got checked on the way out!!And on the way back I had to get him out of the car and take him into the office to be checked,I could have had any other dog in the back of my car.

Since your dog is coming from Ireland, get a passport anyway. Chances are it won't be checked but they are free here so no harm having one. No need for rabies shot between Ireland and the UK either.

Checks are only ever made when entering the UK as most other countries have rabies and not as strict rules. It's unlikely you'd get away with having an unchecked dog in the back of the car, unless tiny and covered up, as checks are made on the cars and the piece of paper on your mirror stating the number of pets onboard saying just 1 means anyone spotting an extra dog in the car can report you. It could be the person checking your passport, the person telling everyone where to park their cars aboard the train, anyone official.
