Hi all you expereinced stud dog owners - heeelp. Jimmy aged 2 1/2 "had" his first bitch 8 days ago, It took him until day 15 to actually get it together and although she stood happily it was a bit of a botch job and very quick. So I dont expect she is pregnant - but might be. I tried her with him the following day and she wasn't interested. These two live together in the house full time, but Jimmy was mounting her constantly - as I thought I might as well leave them together as they were under constant supervision. So I poppped her into the kennel with her granny, a week ago. I have brought her back up to the house today and he is after her all the time, and I am wondering whether I should leave them together or return her to the kennel for another week or so? Will he calm down or have I paid the price of using him at last . He is panting and crying after her nearly all the time and marking all round the house!! She doesn't seem too concerned and warns him off if he goes too far. Should I seperate them again and will he calm down? I am asssuming she cant be in season any more as she has been rejecting him for a week now. If she is pregnant will his bothering her affect the pregnancy? I have no experience of owning a stud dog, but I know that once mares are mated you usually keep them away from males or they can slip (lose) their foals.

All i've got to say is Ha! Ha! Ha! Welcome to the world of stud dogs. LOL!!!!!! serves you right for using Jimmy WL, a slip mating does produce puppies, sure Lucky was like that when I first used him, thats why I'm having to replace my hall carpet soon !!!!! I will probably get the same from Cookie when he is first used, i'm having to watch him like a hawk just now with Midget being in season, at least she is still growling and sitting down when he comes near her, but, next week, will be a different matter, then it will be separate rooms for them or he will be going "on holiday" to my daughters. LOL. Cookie has started lifting his leg as well, and he stinks!!! dont know if its because Midget is in season or whether he has a urine infection, but if I remember back to Lucky he was the same if any bitches were in season. Your bitch should be o.k. she will let him know that she is not interested, I did not need to put my dog or bitch "away" after they had mated especially if she was finished her season, they used to run together in the garden and I dont think I had any pups absorbed, will keep fingers crossed for you though. speak to you soon,
Irene

Both my studd and bitch live in the house, I have never had a problem with him lifting his leg even though I have 2 other males here (fixed of course).Everyone kept telling me that he would mark and well he never has, even when we moved to another house. He is a good little boy.

Glad to report that things have quietened down a bit. He tried his latest "skills" on Pippa (his Granny) and she gave him what for - verbally - and I think that has done the trick!! Peace reigns now, thank goodness! Thanks for the replies.
