i am asking advice about imported dogs, i wonder if the colour is the only thing different? why are these dogs with colours not recognised by the kc flooding the uk market? i wonder about the breeding regulations abroad, will my puppy be raised with the same care as a well recommened uk breeder? and will they be of the same breed standard? if anyone has an imported dog i would be interested to know how the process of importation works also, i presume the puppy would be crated on a plane? any info to help would be great!

think we need somewhat more info than you've given us :-(

it all depends and really, like UK, you have to be careful where and whom you buy from.. if you buy a pup abroad it's up to you how he/she travels... I went to Germany for a pup, the breeder was highly recommended, they have exceptionally strict rules and regulations from the breed club, I flew over to see the pup, meet the breeder and the stud dog owner, then drove over to collect - called in to see the stud dog on the way home - and brought him back in the car... no problems :-)

Unless you are dealing direct with the breeder and have 100% faith in how they are conducting thier business  then be very very carefull. Lots of puppy farmed puppies are flooding the UK market for places like Hungary.
Never ever get a pup from someone you do not know anything about.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if this is a French bulldog puppy run a mile and contact penny rankine-parsons from fbcoe. Also you want a breed standard colour and from parents who have completed at least bronze level in the health scheme

Someone has brought an adult male of my breed in from the states and he is an unrecognised colour, she has been advertising him for stud, he isn't even a good quality re conformation and to top it all has Colour Dilution Alopecia, he is supposed to be long haired but has very little hair, there will those out there who will want to use him just because he is an unusual colour and not realise the other problems he will bring.

I would have to know a breeder very well and found them from recommendations by others before going to the extra expense of importing a pup.

I would run a mile too! I have a French bulldog and in the last few months there have been hundreds of unregistered colours flooding the market! Blues, Chocolates and also black and tans! I have a link some where regarding the health related problems with these colours, I'll try to find it.
Find a good breeder and visit a good few before deciding. Also most Frenchie breeders I know will give a copy of health tests carried out on the parents, to new puppy owners.
