Just when you think you have seen it all somebody advertises these puppies. Mum 14 month only husky dad golden lab. Advertised as "great loyal family dogs". When I pointed out that labs are yellow, the husky is far too young and this mix is a disaster waiting to happen and far from a grate family pet, I got this response. " god are u one of those stuck up dog people!!

Last week I was alerted to an advert on the free ads, for so-called Golberians - a Husky/GR cross, allegedly very popular in the US. The mind boggles - a highly intelligent dog that spends all its time plotting how to escape from Colditz? lol

and a strong prey drive,  love of water, but might retrieve what it kills when it escapes.

hahaha, that was my second thought - makes a list of what to kill when it finally gets out, and brings it all home! dead sheep on your doorstep, anyone?

I'd be interested in the colour genetics. the Red that makes Labs yellow, is it a colour found in Huskies.  What colour are the offspring likely to be.

I think the Red in Huskies is liver.
The Husky coat pattern is a(w) wolf-grey which is recessive to a(y) (fawn sable), but dominant to a (solid colour) and a(t) black and tan. The pics I saw when I googled were mainly wolf-grey, but with a warm creamy flush to the pale areas of the coat, possibly due to absence of the gene which removes the yellow colour in Sibes. Labs and GRs would be aa as they are solid (not taking into account the K gene which also gives solids, and can completely mess up the above! LOL).

And to add to this, what kind of coat would they have?
Very dense double coat from the Sibe side, less dense from the other parent, but still something that has the potential to flock the whole household and its inhabitants at moulting time.

A very few Sibes and/or their crosses may also harbour a longhair gene, which could pop out to meet the GR's.
