Hi we (me and my husband) have a lurcher who was badly treated before we rescued her from an animal rescue centre, we've had her for over a year now and she still weees and poos when we leave her, even for short periods, we take her and our other dog whom she loves out before we go out so they can do their business but she still messes, was thinking of trying zylkene as we think it is associated with anxiety when left with no human contact, as i say she has another dog with her and 4 cats who she adores so she is not totally alone. Was wondering if anyone has any other ideas or has also had similar problems with their pet .
It could be either separation anxiety or just the fact that she doesn't realize that she is doing wrong. Was she ever house trained? You may have to go right back to basics with her. Treat her as if she was a new puppy. When you say you take her out, is it just into the garden or for a short walk round the block? Sometimes a short walk can help sort out a problem. I would also think of getting her a crate or puppy pen for when you are out. Make it into a sort of den area for her so that she feels safe. Other than that I can only think of taking her back to basics, taking her outside every so often and praising her (make yourself sound really happy and pleased with her) and ignore any messing in the house, just clean it up. What are you cleaning it up with? Some cleaners will not 'clean' properly so she will still be able to smell the area and will associate it with going to the toilet.
