Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / best wet food

My elderly Cocker spaniel is to have an op to remove a couple of teeth and have a dental clean on Friday.
She has always been a stone chewer and still doesn't miss a chance to grab a bit of shingle, although I'm pretty sure she doesn't swallow it. However it is catching up with her now and she seems as though she has a problem eating kibble and is losing weight because of this.
I have tried soaking it to soften it but she is not interested unless it is absolutely mush.I have been putting some Butchers tinned on top and she is eating this  but not the kibble.  My vet has suggested that maybe she would be better off having wet food in future because of this problem. Can anyone suggest the best tinned food as a complete diet, I use Butchers and sometimes Chappie, but need to know that she is getting all the necessary vitamins etc.
I think she has a tooth problem and is not being just a fussy eater as she loves her Bonio but recently she runs away and hides it under her bed, but doesn't attempt to eat it, and this is really not her as usually it doesn't touch the sides.

We have an old boy who has tinned Chappie in the mornings. I give him a couple of handfuls of terrier meal with it, and he is fine with that. He has raw in the evening, but minced (with a bit of minced bone in), unlike the others who have wings, necks etc. You can always supplement the Chappie. Ours all have liquidised veggies and oil in the evenings, including our old boy. Sometimes live yogurt and I give Manuka honey if I think anyone needs it.

You're probably right about the tooth problem. See what she's like after her op. All the best with her, our oldies are precious aren't they.

I feed some wet with my dry food.  My BC always has Chappie, as he had a delicate digestive system when he was a pup, and he did so well on Chappie, that it has never been changed.  When he goes for his booster jab, the vet always comments on his condition.

The rest of the gang get tinned Butchers, I buy the loaf as it has the best content.

I've used the Butchers Tripe tins in the past, loaf type too. It's cereal free which suited my grain intolerant dog - would use it again if I had no other option.

Many thanks, from your comments it seems as though the tins I use just as a topper would be suitable as maybe half and half to try her on. Mainly tinned and just a small amount of crushed kibble.
I tend to buy the Butchers loaf each week delivered with my Tesco shop, and just for a change sometimes get Chappie tinned instead.
You have put my mind at rest that this is suitable, and this way my other dog will think he has the same as it will smell the same and he will not know that he only has a topper and she has a lot more. I'll give it a try and add some blended veg and salmon oil etc.

I always get good advice from the CD doggie people, many thanks

naturediet is what i feed to all my dogs with a dry (autarky)

Naturediet can be heated in the microwave which makes it very soft and smells attractive to the dogs (I have weaned puppies this way)

Nature Diet or Natures Menu -high meat content, rice and vegetables added -if I wasn't vegetarian I could eat it myself it looks that good. Chappie is just 22 % fish and meat with lots of cereals, ND and NM are over 60 % meat and the only cereal is rice as opposed to wheat and maize.

ND sounds good, but what would you recommend for a dog that doesn't tolerate rice too well?

Ziwipeak tins, no cereals at all. Or one of the raw completes such as Natural Instinct, Basil's, Honey's or WolfTucker.

Thanks - will store that away in my memory banks for the future! No problems at the moment, doing well on raw, but wondered what else was out there which was grain-free.
