Just thought I would update on how I am doing with giving Floyd his chemotherapy pills, as we are now into our 4th week. I tried all your suggestion's, but putting the pill in something to disguise it didn't work, mainly because the pills were to big and they had to be given whole...
So I had to revert to opening his mouth and putting the tablet to the back of his throat, (smearing the pill in a little butter) initially this would take me between 15 and 25 minutes and once as long as 45 minutes, as they would always keeping popping back out.
For the last 12 days, after his breakfast, he watches me putting my gloves on and laying his pills out, he then comes into the kitchen has a lick of the glove that has a hint of butter on and then sits down, I then open his mouth, and his tongue is now nice and still and he swallows the pill straight away all over and done with in a couple of minutes, we then finish off with a lump of boiled chicken breast that I break up and hand feed as a reward. I cannot believe the change round, I do believe by the time the 6 months is up he will be sitting there with his mouth open at the ready lol.
He is also doing very well with his treatment, he has had one blood test so far which came back good, white blood cell count getting low, but vet said to be expected, just to keep an eye on him, he needs a check-up and blood test every 2 weeks, so next one is on Thursday. He has been better than ever, no sickness or anything and the vet is really impressed with his overall appearance.
