Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Home made low fat diet?
- By Freewayz [gb] Date 21.06.12 21:49 UTC
My dog has pancreatitis and the vet put him on Hills prescription D/D diet duck and rice flavour and he has done reasonably well on this diet.  However I just received a bill for his food and it cost £69.99 ! for a 12kg bag.

I would like to make a go at fixing his food from fresh and wondered what sorts of things I need to be including to make sure his get what he needs keeping in mind the fat content needs to be kept to less than 7% if I am to believe quite a few websites.

Do you think it would work out cheaper or am I being a bit dim for even thinking I can make his food cheaper than buying it in a bag?

Cheers
J

hi i have heard you need to feed raw pancreas to the dog ,i knew someone who had gsd and he was sourcing the pancreas from local abetoirs ,i think by eating the pancreas you are replacing what is not working something like that.look it up.i had a cav that had this and she was on hills low cal tin food which she did well on and lived more many years after the condition was diagnosed but as she was farly small so it was not too expensive
