Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Do bitches win the group less often than dogs?

My Annie was the only bitch that got placed in the Working group yesterday and that got me thinking whether the bitches actually win less often? I'm not saying she should have won, but looking at groups in a past, it seems it's harder for the girls. To me a stunning male Giant will always win over a bitch, even if they are equally correct, so is it the same for the judges?

We only recently got given CC's in our breed (one of the Gundog grp) and in recent years it seems more common for a bitch to win our BOB, and then go through to group.  Many judges have commented that there is greater quality in the girls.  Perhaps that's because many of the boys, even very good ones, are homed as pets as most of the breeders only keep girls...

However it's interesting that many recent very prolific winners - all groups - are male.  Although these are long established breeds with quality across both sexes I wonder if it's simply down to campaigning.  A dog never needs to miss a show for seasons or take time out for puppies, he can't lose his figure and rarely loses coat.

I always find dogs to be more showy & on their toes more than bitches, and I guess in the group if a bitch is "yeah what ever, i'll show but whatever" and a dog is "wooohooo look at me, i'm amazing, i'm a maaaaan, look how great i am" it's gonna be the one giving it all

i think it was frank kane who said something like in the breed ring it's down to construction and breed type and as long as they show ok it's all that matters but in the group/bis it's all about who's showing their socks of because they should all be the best of the best

Think they probably do and dogs may well win the most BOB too as the males of the canine species are by far the most eye catching, they are arrogant and therefore stand tall with everything taught and ready for action, lets face it they just love being admired. Bitches do seem to enjoy showing but they do sometimes seem to be thinking about what to get for dinner or did they remember to turn the bed.

Certainly in my breed males win BOB more often than bitches by 2 to 1 most years.

Apart from many people considering that a male is more impressive in most breeds, you have th situation that the male comes in to challenge the bitch nice and fresh, where the bitch is likely to have won out of Limit of Open, so just had her class, then the bitch challenge, and in marches this male raring to go, and she may well be fed up by then.

Harder to keep my bitches motivated right to the end of the day I find...whereas my top winning male would show all day for a glimpse of his yellow 'ducky'....bless!
He was certainly a group dog :-)

So I think what we are saying is that the males are full of themselves and will strut and show off all day....whereas the girls are a sight more sensible.......

Bit like humans then ;-)

Also in coated breeds males will almost always have better coats than bitches, who lost their coats for seasons.
