Natural instinct dog food, do a working dog food which is lower priced than others in their range. Would there be a problem or reason, not to use it, our boys are 8 & 7.

                                           Working                                                             Other
Moisture                               70%                                                                  69.8%
Protein                                 15.6%                                                               14.3%
Fat                                       8.8%                                                                 8.4 %
Ash                                      4.0%                                                                 3.4%
Fibre                                    1.0%                                                                 1.3%
Chicken & bone                      85%                                                                  80%

Many thanks.

The reason it is cheaper, is that vat is not payable on food for working dogs.  Very often, when I've found a decent offer on working dog food, I've mixed it in with my normal feed to reduce costs.

The details you've given wouldn't make me overly concerned.  Blimey, not just my Collies, but my Chi's have eaten working dog food, and although the Chi's haven't worked any harder on it, they have been fine.  :-)

I have used the working dog food several times but keep an eye on the fat content as it does change from time to time and tends to be higher than the normal one.

Is this wet, dry or raw food?
I might be mistaken but I thought Natural Instinct are a raw food company?

If it's kibble then it doesn't look too bad at all, a lot of working dog protein levels are way above 15%.... but it's complicated to compare raw to dry/wet food protein levels.

Sorry, should have mentioned it's raw.

Ahh ok... You will need to ask those raw people in the know if you want to see how it compares with non-working raw. There is very little difference as far as I know, except raw for true working dogs may be higher in fat = calories. If you have educated yourself re raw feeding you will know you can offset this if it's putting too much weight on your dog, by feeding less, giving more bone, or adding pulped veg to bulk.

Almost all  the raw food I have ever bought via Prize Choice or Albion is labelled the same. It's a way of getting round VAT and possibly also around legislation for Pet dog foods which may be more dumbed down for the average consumer.

My sister regularly uses NI's working range for her Sheltie and Bichon with no problems.

Has to be raw or part raw as it is 70% water.

A bit confused by the breakdown shown as it is well over 100% can someone explain?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.06.12 11:04 UTC
Think of it as being two separate lists; the working food is 85% chicken and bone, which (with the unspecified 15%) is broken down into the percentages of the various components (protein, fat etc) which total 99.4%.

See what you mean JG, the content is sort of chicken and bone, the breakdown of which is made up of the list above.
