Waiting for puppy picking, and taking home, etc......... is VERY hard. How do you cope! My dreams are even being invaded by pups now. LOL.

Believe me my pups are at least nine months away...if she is mated...if she carries...if she has the right sex...if they are well marked...if one looks good enough...and my dreams are still invaded by pups !!! I feel your pain LOL

haha! I  know the feeling 100%. These pups are coming up to 6 weeks now and I have been involved and patient since the first mating...my patience is wilting now and I just want puppy cuddles. LOL

Mine have arrived, they are 13 days old, there are two to pick from, but I won't know until I can see them moving about, they get their teeth etc,so an impatient 3 weeks for first inklings and another month before any real choice can be made.

I keep, picking the two girls up and asking them who is staying with us, LOL  their eyes have been open two days and they look at me like Mr Magoo.

They are alredy registered and mine is registered as Barbelka Tygrys, with call name 'Tyga' but we don't know if it will be Red or Lilac (wool collar colours).

So agree with this thread.!. I am waiting for my bitch to come in season and as Merlot rightly says so many ifs........
Still this dreaming is what makes the whole process  more enjoyable, especially thinking of "show" names.

ooooh at least you guys are in the choosing seat! I have to wait for the breeder to make her picks and then the dam's breeder before I can but I have already fallen head over heels for one particular pup... looks, temperament, everything! oops!!

Sadly we had a traumatic whelping with three stillborns and then a retained one (sex unknown as not a pretty sight by then) passed two days later.

My vet was on call and cover practise would not let me have Oxytocin for 4 hours!  Even though this bitch had never gone more than an hour between live births, and there was no sign of contractions after first puppy.  She produced 2 and 3 in the car when went to the surgery at 4 hours, and then another 15 minutes later at home, without Oxy.  The stillborns were pups 5, 7 and 8, and no. 10 seemed dead, but we got him going after working on him a goodly time.

Sods law three stillborns were all girls, virtually no white markings (you often get them on feet and chest), and we keep only girls!

We have three girls and four boys, but the biggest girl has too much white to be sure for it to blend in, so just the two to choose from.

It's what makes us strong Barbara!

I just love this stage when their eyes are just open and they are staggering around like little drunks and trying to work out their surroundings, also they smell soo good and are all squishy and their coats thick and plush.  Such time wasters!!

Sorry to hear that Barbara, I have 3 gorgeous little girls, but had a very sad time too as their Mum died when they were 2 days old,  they are doing well and were 4 weeks old on Sunday, but it has been a hard slog with all the bottle feeds.  I love all of them, and this may be the hardest litter pick I have ever had to do.

So sorry to hear this Barbara and gwen..how.sad wishing all your puppies strength xx

Oh I am so sorry, that makes my girls ordeal pale into insignificance and a course of antibiotics cured her cystitis and whatever issues the retained pup may have caused.

As it is I am taking no more chances and this is her last litter, so one of them stays, so lets hope it's a good one, as that's us up to numbers.

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Gwen. It would be my worst nightmare. Well done with the pups x
- By inka [ie] Date 07.06.12 10:00 UTC
That is tragic Gwen, so sorry to hear it. :(
- By gwen [gb] Date 07.06.12 20:46 UTC
Thanks for the sympathy everyone.  Yes, my worst nightmare, I have never lost a bitch before in over 20 years breeding.   My little orphans are helping me, but it has been very hard.  Lots of bottle feeds were accompanied by tears.
