I know there are a few threads knocking around about JWs but none seem to answer my question. My dog won his class and BOB at an Open Show yesterday. There was only one dog and us (making two in his class). I know we don't get a point for the class but can we still claim the point for BOB?

The rules here are a bit vague:
Junior Warrant points cannot be claimed from classes or for awards with less than three dogs of the breed present. In assessing the number of dogs present in each class, exhibitors may count a dog as having been present in a class provided it was entered in that class and was present in its first class for the breed at that Show.

Does the "or for awards" mean BOB?

No you can't claim the point for BOB. To get the BOB point there needs to be 3 of the breed present.

You can however claim the point for a ShCM.

Thanks thats  what I thought to be honest. Somebody at the show said I could but I thought I'd double check! We took the group too so thats 5 points in total for the Sh.CM!

Oh well, that's good progress for the ShCM anyway. Also love your username (assuming it's a username and not your actual name?) as I'm a mad Dr Who fan! :-D

Were there dogs of your breed in other classes? So more than three competing for the BOB?

Would that make the BOB count for the JW points? (sorry don't know!)

Yes the BOB would count if there were 3 present overall, but he has said there were only 2 present, unfortunately. :-)

Do you get any points for best puppy in breed?

Only if he hadn't got BOB, but he'd have still have needed three dogs entered.

Last year was added the possibility to get a point at Open shows for Best puppy, if the opposite sex puppy had won a class of more than 3.

The new Junior Warrant regulation states 'One point for the award of Best Puppy in Breed at an Open Show. Only to be claimed if no qualifying Junior Warrant points were gained by that dog by winning a breed class or classes at that show and only to be claimed if the dog awarded Best Opposite Sex Puppy has also gained one or more points having won a breed class or classes at that show.'

Re open shows and BOB:
You can claim one point for Best of Breed at an Open Show, but only if you were not able to claim a point for a 1st prize in a breed class and only where there are three or more dogs present in the breed

Bloody complicated isn't it, so if I won MPD at a champ show I would get three points and anything for best puppy in breed?

At champ shows it's easy only class wins with 3 or more in a class.

So taking BP at an open show gives you a JW point even though not 3 puppies present? And to clarify if you get BOB and there were at least 3 dogs present overall in your breed that is another point?

And would you get a point for BP and a point for BoB as well?

No only if the opposite sex puppy you beat had won a JW point having 3 dogs in any of it's classes.   Whatever happens your dog must beat more than two others, directly or indirectly.

For example you have dog and bitch classes, your dog is alone or one of two, and the bitch pup has 3 or more in her class.  She gets a JW point for class win you don't.  You then beat her for BP, so get a JW point for this as technically you have beaten her and the others in her class, which is more than three dogs.

Same in the case of BOB point win, you have to have beaten at least two others.  I don't think you can claim both points though for BP and BOB, this allowance is for when you can't get the points from a class win.

Group and breed club ones, or any giving seperate sex classification.
