If the more senior members among us can remember the books from their childhood (Malory Towers, etc) can you please jog my memory for a suitable name for a jolly-hockey-sticks, cheerful, enthusiastic, hearty sort of 'gel' to whom her school chums would say "I say, xxxxxx, you
are a brick!". I just can't put my finger on the right name ...

Yes Bunty !

Geraldine?
The Magic Faraway Tree, Enid Blyton - starring Jo, Bessie & Fanny.

Gwendoline?

I used to love Malory Towers, St Claires etc. Marjorie or Bunty sound good.

I think Bunty, too. Thanks! My car (red and square and remarkably brick-like) now has a name! :-)

Go Bunty! Sounds very appropriate for a red, brick-shaped car :-D
I would really LOVE an old style Micra as a little run around for me and the dogs, any colour as long as it's bright, and would actually give it a name too :-D

Darrell, is that spelt correctly?

Opppps that'll teach me not to read the Q properly!

Tabitha, Imogen, Amelia, Maud, Cordelia

Bunty is a great name for your car JG!!
Mallory Towers - wow that brings back some great childhood memories! I grew up reading the Mallory Towers & St Clares books, along with the Famous Five series too. I'm still a massive fan of Enid Blyton, she should be compulsory reading in schools :)
Claire

I used to read the Bunty and the Mandy too :-)
My mum loved the Dimsie books when she was wee so I bought her a copy for Christmas this year :-)

Now i remember bunty jackie and judy but mandy escapes me

Mandy had the 'Valda' series, which entranced me!

I'm 46 and still have Judy, Bunty and Mandy annuals from the 70's, I read them 3 or 4 times a year, I know the stories off by heart, but still love them, everything was so "proper " in them.
I know somebody called valda, now I know where it came from!
