Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Scotland deliveries?
- By cracar [gb] Date 09.05.12 12:17 UTC
I'm sure this topic has been covered but I can't find it anywhere!  Please help.  I'm looking for a raw meat company that delivers north of the border.  AMP don't do it, which I find strange as they are in cahoots with Prize choice who do deliver north.  I have sent an e-mail and am awaiting a reply from them about their breeders club prices but I would like some more companies for price comparison.  I still get loads from my butcher but it's all beef constantly so I want to mix it up with other meats.
Also, Lamb bones(leg, etc)? Can I feed them to the dogs or do they splinter? My butcher tells me they are too sharp and shatter and he is worried about giving me these incase it injures the dogs but I think I've read they are OK?

Sorry no comment on scotland deliveries but I also get a lot of lamb bones free from our butcher. I have stopped feeding leg bones because they splinter into big shards and are really hard. Also I noticed a shard or two coming through in poo and on closer investigation they were very sharp indeed and I don't feel happy about that going through. I have very big, very strong dogs, perhaps smaller dogs won't tackle these leg bones the same way and will be ok.
I do feed lamb ribs and necks and shoulders and heads and spines, no problem at all.

Try Fife Animal Feeds, they do DAF and have a huge range, not sure where you are but I know Steven delivers up into the Highlands. The delivery can be a bit slow, it can be weeks from order to delivery, but if you time it right it's usually ok. I found that if you look on DAF's own web site it has dates when it delivers to certain area's, making an order with FAF a week before that date should see you ok though.

As to bones, I had the same reaction from my butcher, you just have to stand your ground. I don't feed lamb leg bones as I think they're too hard, but I still get them for the marrow, as well as lamb ribs and spine.

DAF sell boxes of lamb bones so they must think they're ok? They fed their own dogs (Rotties) on their products and always welcome feedback.

I'm just outside Glasgow, so not 'wilderness' scotland, Celli!!lol.  I got a reply back from Prize choice and they are actually not a bad price.  I remember years ago I used to use DAF and was always happy with the service so I would rather go back there.  Now to get my order in! You know I'm going to order far too much and need to buy another freezer, right?  £60 minimum order is quite a bit.

Is that through DAF or FAF ?. FAF certainly don't have a minimum order that I'm aware off, I usually spend around £30-£40. Give FAF a phone, they possibly do round your way, I know they do Edinburgh.

I was not that impressed with the quality of food from DAF.

I have just ordered from Raw to Go so will see what it is like.  They deliver by courier.

As far as I'm aware, Raw To Go are supplied by DAF.

No entirely sure if this would help, but have you tried local abattoirs?
I know a really good one just outside Shotts, good quality of meat and loads of bones. (not just beef)
Although I think you would probably have to go pick it up.
