Mites appear to have raised their ugly head again on my girl. :-(
Despite previous skin scrapes almost 2yrs ago not revealing any mites (not unusual as they can hide so well!) the vet suggested Advocate might be a useful rapid solution to her 'chobbling' (mainly) her back legs/feet and subsequent hair loss/scabbiness. (Mange was ruled out)
The Advocate worked and all was well.
So, I rang our vet this morning who informed me since they have not seen her for over a year (boosters now abandoned over concerns that they might have been the initial trigger for the hairloss etc) they could not give us a repeat prescription for Advocate. Cost would be consultation fee (£23+) and £10+VAT for prescription (I know Advocate is more cost effective online).
Decided to ring local PAH vet's practice who have booked her in for 'Free flea/ tick check' and will provide a prescription for £6.
Will be useful opportunity to meet new vet.....and most probably switch as I've never had much faith in my local vet's practice, keeping them only as they were less than 5 minutes drive from home.
Run you horrible little mites...your hours are numbered! :-D :-D :-D
Excellent vet! Sadly a locum only covering sick leave.
Open-minded and thorough.
Potentially not mites.
Could be allergy although vet had similar view to mine re the validity/ usefulness of extensive testing for this.
Could be hip issues despite being from below average scoring parents etc. He suggested some dogs will chew at themselves if they are in pain and she did yelp when he raised her leg?
Advocate administered.
Yumega food additive to calm itchy skin.
Hip screen to be arranged soon.
> Hip screen to be arranged soon.
Make sure that they take the dogs ID so they can be scored by the BVA (worth the £50), not jsut looked at by your vet.
Barbara,
I'll take her to Marilyn - wouldn't trust anyone else!
