Could anyone tell me how many kennels you can have before you need to have a boarding license, looking to help friends and family out mainly, but with having 4 dogs myself keeping them in the house would be to much :L. Have a couple of acres, so plenty of room. Someone said it was 5 but wanted to check, (have phoned the local council, waiting on someone phoning me back, they seem to be on a go slow in sunny scotland this morning, lol). thanks x

Hope the council manage to help you in Scotland .It will different rules to here , but a friend approached her council (Hereford) and asked if she needed permission to home board ,what it consisted of etc , how much , and there was so much conflicting info as it was the first time they had dealt with it .

Not done this myself but I would imagine you'd have to get some sort of insurance as well. Probably a change of use permit from the council as well, from residential to having a business on the premises, no matter how small scale. Not sure if that would mean informing your neighbours so they could put their views forward.  You'd have to keep books of some sort for the tax man. Nothings ever simple, always loads to consider.

A friend of mine wanted to open a tiny cattery, just for a few cats, I know she had to go through the council for somethings. In the end she had the idea refused because the neighbours complained and also they said there was not enough access to the place. Made me laugh because she was talking really small scale not having customers backing up onto the motorway.
