This is going to sound like a really stupid thing to ask but here goes...

Thursday afternoon I tripped and hurt my ankle. I thought it was ok at first as apart the the initial pain and throbbing for about an hour it seemed fine.
I then noticed swelling which grew to the size of a lemon. Went to the doctor got x-ray and thankfully not broken.
It has continued to swell and the bruising is halfway down my foot and completely around my ankle.

But the thing is it LOOKS horrendous but apart from a very slight ache now and again...there is no pain.

I've had sprains before and they always hurt so much I was saying bad words for days and never had any bruises like this.
I put a picture in my profile if anyone wants to see what I am talking about..

I would rather there be some pain...but I am strangely worried at the absence...I am thinking of going to see the doctor again especially since the bruising gets a little worse and now it is going to the inside of the ankle and I noticed it starting at the sole of my foot this evening. The swelling is still quite bad as well.

Have any of you ever had a no pain sprain..??

Cheers and thank-you for your patience.

No idea really... But having once torn a ligament in my calf (couldn't walk properly for 2 wks) and then years later damaged ligaments in my foot (ditto re outcome) I hardly flinched when my foot went down a rabbit hole last November.

It didn't hurt at all for several days then pain spread from one toe along the foot until I was barely able to walk and it was keeping me awake at night. Was unable to get it properly checked out at the time as my mother became acutely unwell and back then as her carer I had no time off(long story) still don't as it happens!

I wore strong boots with ankle support and eventually the pain went and I have full mobility back, after 6 months, but it should have been x-rayed at the time, I am certain there was damage to the bone.

I damaged the ligaments in my foot last year and although their was no pain, the swelling in my ankle was horrendous.
Raise you foot higher than your hip and ice the injury to take the swelling out.  You can try arnica for the bruising too.
Took my foot about 6 weeks to return to normal and the swelling to start reducing but it didn't help that I flew the week of the injury!
