Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / csj tripe

My friend has been looking for a good middle of the road dry dog food and I suggested CSJ. She has had several samples and her dogs love the complete tripe. Has anyone here ever used this food and I would be interested on any comments before she splashes out on large sacks.
She has fed  Arden Grange and her dogs wouldn't touch it willingly, it seems the  csj complete tripe is the only one they really wolfed down

Hi silly sue, my dogs favoured the csj tripe when offered the samples so off I trotted and got a 15kg bag they happily ate it all up for a day and half and then my fussy retriever began to lose interest in it but the rottie still ate it, after about eight or so days my goldie had a massive allergic reaction and my rottie began to vomit in quite alarming amounts but kept water down, goldie is on strong antihistamine from vet and rottie settling down , I have put them both back on royal canin. I cannot say if the above was linked to the food but it was very odd if not .

many thanks for the answer. The only CSJ I have used in the past was the basic Champ when money was very tight, I now feed Orijen, however all my lot did well on the Champ, thats why I suggested the CSJ food to her. It is so difficult, dog food is a minefield sometimes.

I bought a sample bag of the CSJ Tripe at a show once as I'd forgotten to take any 'pocket biscuits'.  My greedy guts wouldn't even look at it and when I got home the other two were equally unimpressed

Odd really as they'd eaten CSJ Lamb & Rice without pulling faces, and they always eat fresh tripe :)

As you say though, all dogs are different and there's probably no need to assume that her dogs will change their minds...

the best ones for me of the csj range is that'l do/hi lost axactally the same food with different names it is from the original range. the dogs coats are gleaning and the poo is very firm as well. it is £12.05 a bag. i find no difference with this food to a more exspensive food

I have had mine on the complete tripe for about 6/7mths now (frm Arden grange lamb and rice)....they eat it very well (have to chase the puppy away from it) - they are in good condition and poo's nice and firm and relatively low volume.  My lot (cockers) are on between 1/2 and 2/3rds of recommended feed amounts, find they put weight on a little too easily on it.

However.....my lot would eat a scabby horse, they are definately not fussy.  My stockist did say that if you add a little warm water to it the smell attracts them more (bit tripey - unsuprisingly!)

Got a 4mth ld pup just now and she is on cp27 (puppy food) and again, happy with this, she's coming on well.

Very grateful for all the response. It seems to have pretty good ingredients with tripe listed as first on the list, for a reasonable low price, so I think she is going to give it a go and see how she gets on, I'll tell her about the water if they get a bit picky. I think CSJ has a good reputation so fingers crossed.
