Topic Dog Boards / Health / bitch getting unwanted attention from dogs
- By ally449 [gb] Date 03.05.12 12:08 UTC
my 3 year old lab bitch is getting lots of unwanted attention from dogs. At first i thought she may have an infection as i've heard this can often smell like a bitch in season but after a course af anti b's it's still happening. They are not trying to mount her but do lots of sniffing snd then start to follow her. She can be quite timid around other dogs (due to coming from a home that never socialised her) and has started snapping at all these dogs that just want to pester her all the time.

We have an entire male living with us and he isn't interested in her in the slightest, it's just when we are out on walks.

She had a litter in jan 2011 (with previous owner) so do you think it could be due to a hormonal inbalance or something?

Any advise would be great and i'm wondering if spaying is the way to go on this one.

Could she be coming into season?
- By ally449 [gb] Date 03.05.12 12:24 UTC

Phantom pregnancy possibly? Is there any sign of milk at all? If not I'd be concerned about infection and perhaps ask for a course of a different antibiotic in case it's pyo.

there are no signs of milk. She has been like this since we got her last september. There has never been any discharge or smell and the times i have taken her to the vets about it, her temp was fine too. She eats well and is very active. I'm stumped!

Was just going to suggest the same thing. I have had murder with my boy as he is after his daughter and it was her anal glands.

I recently had a call from a lady who had a "puppy" from me, now nearly ten. He was going frantic after their spayed bitch. She'd just had her annual check up and jabs. I suggested that it could be an anal gland issue and luckily it was so that was easily resolved :)

just an update...

ruby went in to be spayed last week and the vet said she had polycystic ovaries which is why she was being humped all the time. At least its all sorted now.

Glad you have finally found out what was causing the problem, she should settle down now the ovaries have been removed.
