Hi my Gsd was spayed on friday, all went well, she is ok in herself but whines alot. what is bothering me is that she does not seem to pee much, usually when i send her outside she goes on command but over the weekend she has hardly been, I have just taken her for a walk on lead round the field but would not go, I have stood outside in the rain but nothing surely this cant be normal. I know she hates not being able to run around. thanks

She won't have been drinking as much or eating as much as she usually does so won't have the fluids to come back out and remember, she will be sore around that area so might be holding it in a bit.  She'll soon get back to normal.
The whining is because she is in pain.  The vet has taken out her reproductive organs which is a major operation.  She shouldn't run(nor want too).  Just keep her warm and quiet for a week or so with short trips out for her business when she asks to go.  You might want to ask your vet for some more painkillers if she's still crying.  I would.  Why should she be in pain?  I only stop the meds if the dog is bouncing about thinking they are invincible.
Hope she feels better soon.  It's a worrying time as an owner?

I agree, if she is whining it will be because she is feeling pain. Some dogs can cope but some can't. Did your Vet send her home wuith painkillers (as I know some don't) If not ask for them, there is no need for her to be in pain. I posted the other day about my newly speyed girl. She had to be opened up twice in one day, she is heavily bruised but I can honestly say that she is doing really well when it comes to pain. She was sent home with 5 days of painkillers.

Given that GSDs are a bit inclined to winge but there is no need for her to be in pain, vets often send the bitches home with a short coarse of anti inflammatory drugs but if she is still in pain then ask for Tramadol that can be taken with the anti inflammatory drugs. If your vet did not give any anti inflammatory care it may be swelling that is making her peeing habit seem different.

She is much better today thank you, she is on pain killers but I dont think she can be in much pain, she is just wanting to go out, she comes to work with me and to the field to see to the horses every day so she is ready to go at any time, but having to leave her at home she doesn't like it. She is a fussy eater so having to tempt her at the moment.
