Hi,I have a new 10 week old Gsd bitch who i am hoping to start showing when she is 6 months old. I have noticed on her back left foot that 1 of her nails is White on the tip, would that be classed as a major fault for showing i would appreciate if someone could let me know.
Many thanks

NO, most judges won't notice and even if they do, would not worry too much about it if the rest of your dog is stunning, when you show outside which is common with GSD's the nails will be covered in mud most of the time anyway if you are carefull to make sure you walk in the mud before you enter the ring ;) Ja:)kie

I'm sure it'll be black in a couple of weeks! My pups are born with white nails - nice and easy to trim! As I cut them every two weeks while I have them, gradually they turn black, until at 8 weeks, as they're about to leave home, they're nearly all black and trimming them takes much longer. My last pup is just 13 weeks, and hers are now all black.

Interesting that, in my breed if the nail is a light colour it stays that way, have never owned a GSD from a puppy so I didn't know that, wonder how many other breeds have nails that change colour as they grow. Await your coments with interest. Ja:)kie

Phoebie started with light nails that were a doddle to trim and now has all black Jackie. Sam started with light and now has some pink and some black and that's the way I'll guess they'll stay as he's now 2+
