Well people I have decided some of my holiday time and days off are going to be given over to exploring this beautiful Country of ours. So come on people recommendations for where to visit.

Looking for places to stay too.

The Lake District.  The beauty of the place needs no further telling really :)  It's a long way if you live in the South but the motorway beyond Lancaster is generally pretty quiet and it has to be the most scenic stretch of motorway making the journey a pleasure in itself.  Some very good individually run service stations too!

Keswick is the most dog friendly town I know and the North Lakes is blessed with considerably less crowds that the South.  You see almost as many dogs as people.

Almost all the shops, apart from food shops, happily allow your dog to accompany as you enjoy the town.

Many pubs and quite a few of the cafes allow dogs too.  Our favourite cafe, which welcomes dogs, has a lovely seating area upstairs overlooking the market place with free wifi for keeping up with Champdogs :)

Walks for all abilities from pleasant lake side stolls on prepared pathways directly from the town to challenging high fells and mountains, again all accessable directly from the town either by foot, bus or even ferry boat.  Fair few sheep about but not too difficult to avoid and some trails particularly around the lake area where they are secured away from the footpaths.

Oh you really should visit the Channel islands if you want to stay British and still feel like you are really somewhere different at the same time :)
Not that I am at all biased, but Guernsey is well worth a visit.

Karen :)

I love Yorkshire.  Whitby and scarborough are my favs.  Also, I love the south coast.  No midgies! Wales for the beaches too.  Gosh, anywhere you've not been is an adventure, I think.  Best of luck :)

Kazz are you planning on taking a dog/s?  Are you driving or on public transport?  Also did you have any preferences for other activities whilst you travel - bird watching, people watching, shopping, culture, hiking etc?

The list of beautiful and interesting places in this tiny country of ours is pretty big so you might need to focus     ... OR (much more fun) take a year off!!  :)

Kazz, You would love Exmoor! We have amongst our attractions, beautiful countryside, stunning coastline, red deer, Exmoor ponies (If you like to ride, it is fantastic here!).

Walking, especially with dogs is a joy. There are plenty of dog friendly places to stay and dogs are welcome in most of our pubs. Exmoor National Park is 267 square miles of some of the most varied scenery in England.

We are so lucky in the UK to have incredible variety in all four countries. Maybe with the recession more people will explore their homeland, instead of rushing abroad to chase the sun!

Have a lovely time wherever you choose :)

And in addition to shivj's suggestion of the Pembrokeshire coastal path, alot of the beaches on the route are still dog friendly, even in the summer months.
