Topic Dog Boards / General / Imported puppy for sale

Just seen an advert for an imported puppy for sale for £3000. Says he will make a good stud dog (despite the fact that he seems to be an undesirable colour according to the UK standard.)
Just wondered if there is any reason (other than making a vast profit) for going to all the trouble of importing only to sell?

Depending where he came from I doubt they're making a vast profit. Even with the new regulations importing a puppy is expensive, either an expensive cargo flight with associated airport fees or a trip overseas yourself to collect - petrol costs, time and ferry cost :-)

Why are they selling him, who knows? You'd have to ask them really, I guess the best possible answer to that would be that the existing animals didn't accept him?

Van loads of pups coming in apparently ( some from as far as Eastern Europe), many are being seized at the ports for failing to comply with current legislation but many may still be getting through.

Also this could be a scam.

It's a blue French Bulldog from Hungary - from the ad he isn't even in the country yet. Says he's FCI reg.

The FCI is not a registry.  Therefore it cannot be FCI registered. The registration should be from the country of birth.

Did wonder about that!

As someone has said, a scam.

Wondering why anyone would import a dog in a undesirable colour and try to sell it for so much when they are not that difficult to acquire in the UK and in an acceptable colour as well.

Just looked it up on the FCI and it seems that by their standard a blue is not acceptable, if the original purchaser is for real then the breeder must have seen them coming and had them down as a fool.

Like blue Staffies, blue Frenchie's seem to be claiming huge prices.

The nurse at our vet's bought a young, ex breeding, brindle Frenchie as her owner no longer wanted her, she had decided blue's were where the money was and sold, what has turned out to be, a cracking wee dog.

Think I am right to say with Staffies blue is an accepted colour if not very popular in the ring but with Frenchies it is a definite no no.

Sadly yes, that is correct.  Blue is listed on the KC Breed Standard for the SBT.

Sounds like a scam to me too.  After paying almost that amount to imort a Pomeranian there's no ways I'd sell him now!

Blue is an accepted colour in SBT's, but they still claim a higher price, sold as so called " rare", by BYB.

I have a hungarian friend who imports and has recently imported a frenchie boy fawn pied ( a colour not accepted here either, as the enthusiasts wish to differ them from English bulldogs) she said its cheaper than buying from here. Little did she know that FP are not allowed like in Europe. The high prices that breeders in the UK command for a quality dog no wonder people are importing. Especially the blue ones why pay 5k when you can import for 800EUR
