Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / my pregnant bitch doesn't look pregnant at all!
- By hatemzalloum [jo] Date 23.04.12 07:30 UTC
babe's pregnancy was confirmed by ultrasound, she is in her 52nd day as of today but she does not look pregnant at all! she had a white odorless vaginal discharge on the 38th day. the rear 2 nipples changed color and that's all! if u look at her you would not see a real difference from her previous state! anyone had a similar experience?

My large breed dogs are slow to show but I have to say with 11 days to go, they have usually done so by then. Did the vet give any inkling at all of how many pups he could see. Not usually accurate for  exact numbers but they can give an idea.

yes with 1 of our girls she had 3 pups but was scanned to be having 6 plus.....so dont go by numbers of the scan as thay can reabsord some/all....(but not always)...by week 8 she had a little pop belly, large breed bitch, that was it and if i hadnt had felt a pup move id think she wasnt in whelp lol

the vet would not say any number at all! tried to have babe X-rayed but she was not easy at all, so we decided not to stress her out and pass..

time will tell then just keep her close to you and if she starts to look stressed then get her back to the vets! all the best.

babe is 55 day pregnant and still extremely active!! she wants to run, jump and play!! I don't encourage her at all, afraid that a miscourage may happen!! any ideas??

>she wants to run, jump and play

I think that bitches slow down when and if they need to.  I had a bitch that I couldn't stop jumping, and she whelped no problems.  I think pups are pretty well protected in their nice warm home.

I have heard of pregnant women having horrendous falls, and landing on their tummies.  Babies were well protected and fine.

Certainly, I would be more worried about your anxiety being transferred to her, at a time when she needs you calm.

Deep Breaths.  :-)

I have always let my pregnant mums do what they want in the way of exercise. I clearly remember one of my girls chasing after a bunny, boobs slapping away, the day before she whelped (very easily :) ) a lovely litter

" I clearly remember one of my girls chasing after a bunny, boobs slapping away "

Love it lol :-)

I think it is a healthy sign if they remain so active throughout their pregnancy, a sign that they are very fit and therefore well equipped for the whelping.

Yes, I didn't restrict Ellie, though I did try to help her climb into chairs if she looked like she wanted assistance, and I remember being somewhat alarmed when one of the others leapt onto the sofa and landed on top of her shortly before her first litter. All went well though. :-)
