Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Alternatives to Naturediet

Hi All,

My 9 month old GSD has two meals a day. We mix Beta large breed pup with Naturediet (sometimes substituting the nature diet for cottage cheese.)

However, he is going off the nature diet and to be quite frank I feel as though it's possibly responsible for why he eats his own pooh now and again. What alternative foods could be suggested to the nature diet, that I can mix with his beta.

On a side note... what are your opinions on Beta pup? Nando does really well on it in my opinion but I've heard it's not the best?

I like it.  Have used it to wean a litter and they did just as well as a previous litter weaned onto Eukanuba.  I have also used it to rear on a puppy to adult and was equally happy.  I think if you are happy with your own results why would you worry what "they" say? :)

How about some tinned chappie good for sensitive stomachs I know thats not the problem and seems to be something most dogs like. As for poo eating I have decide it I more of a habit than anything some do some dont. All my three are raw fed but only Brooke poo eats and Brooke and Mia ( very different breeds ) also roll in anything stinky !

I have just started using Wainwright's tray food.  Nature's Harvest is also good.

I've just found that when he hasn't had nature diet (If we've given him a bit of mince or some other scraps mixed with his food) he won't eat his poo..

How much is the Wainwrights per tray?

Feeding them pineapple is apparently supposed to be good for those who eat their own poop. There's something in the pineapple that stops them from wanting to eat it.

One sure way to stop poo eating is to pick up immediately.  If it's not there, the problem is solved.  I too agree that habit plays a big part once they start.

I use wainwright trays and get them from PAH in a 12 pack box for approx £9

Much cheaper than Nature Diet. I get 16 for £16.

Wow, that is a huge mark-up (I can buy N.Diet for about £10 incl vat at Batleys). I know people have to make a profit but that seems excessive to me.

didnt know batleys sold ND ATM I get it direct from supplier for £14 ..will take a look... thanks

It's in the dedicated pet section so you need to have a card that allows you access to that side

when I rang them a while ago they said I could have a card as long as I bring along my breeder details... and that I would only be allowed to purchase pet products.. would it be in that  particular section do you know... thanks  /

Yes, that sounds right. Will save you a fortune in dog food if you own multiple dogs like me
