Topic Dog Boards / Showing / special beginners stakes
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 17.04.12 20:22 UTC
I was planning on entering my girl into a special beginners stakes class at a champ show in the summer which i thought she was eligible to go into as she has not won a CC, neither has her owner/handler.....however at a show at the weekend a friend who has been showing a LOT longer than me said she couldn't because she had a RCC???
So Can she or Can't she that is my question ;-)
Thanks

You should be OK with a RCC but as it is 'Special' Beginners, the criteria could be different. The easiest way to check is to read the definitions in the schedule of the show you are planning to enter.

this is what it says....SPECIAL BEGINNERS STAKES    Owner, handler or exhibit never to have won a Challenge Certificate.

Then you can.

Thank you, I haven't been entering stakes classes as it was usually a waste of money because we only once managed to make it to the class on time and I haven't got money to throw away but now that they are free if you have already entered a class, thought it might be worth a try. :-)

They may be getting mixed up with the Match rules which forbid CC and RCC winners but you can certainly enter Special Beginners.

at which shows are they giving free stakes entries?
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 18.04.12 20:29 UTC
Blackpool.....ENTRY FEE FOR ALL STAKES CLASSES: As a first entry: £24.00 -- As a subsequent entry: FREE
I will be entered into a breed class as per usual and so the stakes will be free! :-)

Shame too far North for me.
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 18.04.12 20:40 UTC
Sorry Brainless, Hopefully other shows may follow suit?? they are actually offering ALL subsequent classes for free which is great for those that maybe chasing JW points :-)

That's me, entered 3 classes at WELKS where we don't have CC's and the breed entry is just 10.

She has just had her puppy moult at 14 months and is naked as a Jaybird so I don't see us notching up 16 points by Mid August, with 3 at Open level, as we would need 3 or 4 classes at one point and 4 or 5 classes at 3 points.

Even if she won lots of classes we don't have the numbers to get the points below Limit.

You have to watch out and see what is printed in the schedule, some say CC, some RCC, it's not universal.
If you go for it then good luck :)

Just to add..... some say owner, handler, dog to have never won a first place at a Champ show (Birmingham Nationals to name one) :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 19.04.12 10:33 UTC
I think you will find your mistaken, at champ shows it is not having won a CC covering dog owner and handler.

Taken from this years National Schedule.......NATIONAL SPECIAL BEGINNERS STAKES
For owner, handler or exhibit not having
won a First Prize at a Championship Show
Judge: Mr Derek Smith

You are quite right, luckily I read it carefully and not being able to enter the SB stakes have had to move up to the PG stakes.

Appologies, as I no longer qualify haven't looked in detail.  I assume it isn't sponsored by Bannerdown anymore.
- By PDAE [gb] Date 19.04.12 15:14 UTC
I would presume that National have made up their own classes if that is their rulings as it's always been handler or breeder not having won a CC previously?

So in answer to my question....Its different at almost every show so CHECK!!!! :-) (but she can at Blackpool)
Thanks All

Any class that has the prefix Special may have rules and conditions you do not expect so always look at the definition. Special classes are just that, special to that particular show and although most will follow more or less the same lines they do not have to so check.
