Our village is holding a charity Scarecrow competition for the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. They want us all to make a scarecrow for our front gardens with a 'royal' theme. It can be based on anything as long as it has a 'royal' connection (however obscure). You are all very good at thinking outside-the-box so, what do you think? :)

I would do a bridal theme for Princess Kate! Easy and you can get wedding dresses from the charity shops!

Well, the Queen always needs her bodyguards, so how about making your scarecrow wearing a Beefeater uniform and of course that glorious hat, they are the oldest English Royal guards and they are not supposed to move whilst on duty so very appropriate as a stationary scarecrow. :-D

Depends if it has to stay in the realms of fully respecting the monarchy or a slightly comical view on it would be tolerated?

How about a scarecrow with a crown and a bottle of Gin as they are known to like a an odd tipple or two !!

This is something that is picked up on the satirical Twitter #ginoclock

http://gin-oclock.com/

I follow her majesty and the posts are often hilarious but always with gin in mind ! :-D

We had scarecrows in the village last year and someone had added one of those movement sensor dogs to their 'crow.  The damn thing nearly made my 3 dogs and I fall over ourselves when we found it lurking by a telegraph pole one morning.

I regret to say that despite my vigilance my beloved youngest dog still managed to 'wet' it on one occasion - presumably to register his disapproval.  I had to go back out with a cloth and some disinfectant but I fear he hadn't been the only dog to pee on this furry pooch.  Once cleaned however he was as good as new (he still barked at every passing car and person) and this Queenly 'crow and her dog won the prize for best dressed and most imaginative creation.

I like to see scarecrows in the village although one or two of our teenagers get a bit carried away and sometimes the headless corpses have to be reunited and bodies retrieved from the waterways.  Last year one such yoof even added fake blood for authenticity - good job we are a hardy lot as some poor soul could have had a heart attack when she saw a murder victim on the church bench...
