I am taking my dog to france later in the year but am a bit confused regarding the requirements for its travel (due to the change in Jan 2012).
Can somebody please confirm what needs to be done before i travel out of the UK and before i come back in? As the defra site is a little confusing.

Before you travel out, your dog must be microchipped, then rabies vaccinated and a passport issued by your vet. 21 days after the rabies vaccination you can travel. For travelling back in, you need to have the dog treated for tapeworm BY A VET (and this noted in the passport) no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before you arrive back in the UK.

It's as simple as that is it? He has his pet passport, but the new rules (as of Jan 2012 on the defra site) made the process seem a little more complex.

Floyd, Can I ask if you are flying and if so who you arranged your pet's travel with? If I can be so bold can I also ask what price? I'm currently doing the same and have been quoted 950 for a direct flight from Paris so just want to know if I should shop around more or be delighted! :P

why would you fly from Paris to UK? it's much cheaper/easier etc to simply go via the euro tunnel or the ferry as you can't bring a dog into the UK as hand luggage, only by very expensive cargo :-(  If you're flying from eg USA its usually cheaper/easier to fly over yourself from a Europe city and take the dog as hand luggage, from western USA for my sheltie is cost $200 to bring him as hand luggage....
