Anyone own an S max and what do they think of it as desparately needing to change car.

we`ve not long purchased one after owning a C Max...Can`t fault the S Max...Plenty of room in the back for 2 Komondors with only the last row of seats folded flat, rear air con and rear privacy glass is just sheer luxury, nice and low for the dogs to get in the back,Hubby says it drives great too :)

Lots of room, great handling fairly economical even with low profile tyres, decent quality inside, on the downside it has spent lots of time at the dealers with fairly major faults, gearbox ,clutch alarm, the gearbox was and still is a pain in the bum with it sticking and not letting me use 1st and 3rrd gear sometimes and just conking out in at the traffic lights etc, im its only owner and paid 30k for a car that makes my life a misery. ive owned many different brands (vauxhall, land rover, toyota, seat etc ) and i can honestly say because of this car i will never own a ford again :-(

ouch Boody...£30k.....double ouch! For that much money you def expect a car to be of serviceable quality! i.e to actually run!

The only warning I would give is if you have a bad back don't purchase a Zetex model. We purchased one a few years ago and I couldn't ride it, it got so bad that we bought another vehicle for me then found that we hardly used to S-Max so sold it taking a big loss as we had purchased it new. It turned out that the one we had test driven was a basic model which has a softer suspension that the 'sports' suspension on the Zetec but the Saleman hadn't thought to mention it to us.
Everything aside it was a very spacious vehicle and not too bad on fuel considering it's size.

Just read Boody's response and I can sympathise. After the S-Max we purchased a Focus and had loads of problems in the first 12 months. I did vow never to have another Ford but we have just ordered a new Focus Estate as it gets such glowing reports and to be honest we couldn't find anything that compared. I just hope we don't live to regret it.

I think my car is possessed by an evil spirit that doesn't like me as all the problems go away when it goes back to ford :-p

just to add ours is an automatic so cant comment on gearbox /clutch troubles...Boody I sympathise....30k is a LOT of money...big ouch!....We paid a third of that for the Titanium less than 3 years old with one owner from new......

I have a Zafira and since owning it, it has been in the garage more than out with a long list of problems and has cost a fortune now the clutch is playing up. Totally unrealiable also just had two Turbo Booster sensor in 1yr and 2 months. that is why I am desparately looking to change.
