Hi I have a a Gsd who was 12 at christmas, she is very well, eats ok, loves her walks.problem is she cant seem to control her poo, if she is in the hall she knows when she wants to go but on rising she is doing it, the same for the car, if she is out in the conservatory with the door open onto the garden she doesn't make it outside, She always went on command  but when i tell her now she just sits down.It doesn't bother me I am use to picking up dog poo and horse poo, I just feel sorry that she is getting old.

are there any other symptoms? it could be she's losing nerve control - you should take her to the vets to check and see if there's anything they can do.

She sounds the same as my dog who was diagnosed with CDRM which is very common in GSDs.  They loose the nerves/sensation in their back end and so the poo just falls out.  It was very distressing for my dog who had been clean from a very early age but we lived with it for a while.

My friends Doberman bitch was like this for the last few years of her life.

It wasn't an issue though as her poos were very well formed and dry so a tissue and flush down the downstairs loo was all that was needed.

Poor girl just didn't know she was doing it, so no fuss was made to preserve her dignity.

there are no other symptoms she is always keen to come out with the horse, still loves to play ball and play with my young gsd, eats and drinks ok, I will ask at the vet as she is due for a check up, thankyou for replies

Not an uncommon problem with those who are lucky enough to live to be old. (Dogs that is!) My oldie does the same but hers are not always as firm as I would like. Any suggestions on firming the poos would be gratefully received. We call it "ploppy droppies!"
