Hi guys I posted a little while ago about taking my 9yr old boy to the vets to check out a couple of lumps, well they were just fatty lumps. However, they did find a lot of protein in his urine :( we've left it a couple of weeks and done two samples, one last night and another this morning. Both samples showed a lot of protein :( , but the concentration is apparently fine. He's been in since this morning and had his blood pressure done - fine. Bloods not showing anything, just the same as last time. The vet asked to do an xray of his abdomen and scan of kidneys, bladder etc so I agreed as we can't work out whats up. I'm waiting for a phone call to see what the scan etc showed if anything. Has anyone any ideas what it could be or anything I could raise with the vet as I'm stumped.

I think you really just have to wait and see what the scan and x ray show, it is hard waiting.
Hope it checks out ok
Well I collected him from the vets and he's flaked out in his bed. The vet wants to check with the vets at the Animal Health Trust first tomorrow before he speaks to me, so I'm wiating for a phone call in the morning

One of my older girls had a lot of protein in her urine, but they found nothing. I did put her on Hilton Herb's Puriphy. She has been on it for a couple of years now, and is doing ok.
Hope you get good news. Let us know what they say. Sending positive vibes for you and your boy.

Having protein in the urine is a sign of infection, as a nurse all the patients had their urine tested on admission and weekly after that, anything abnormal found a sample went to the lab for testing, if there was sugar present then we automatically did a fasting glucose the next morning.
Was a sample of your dogs wee sent to the lab?
Hope they find out what the problem is soon.
Well my boys notes have been sent to the Animal Health Trust to see what they think of the scan that our vet did and to see if they want to do another scan using their better scanner. My vet found that one of his kidneys was smaller and 'dilated'(?) than the other which apparently would account for the protein loss with normal concentration as the larger kidney is working ok. But my vet wants to hear from the 'big boys' before comitting to a diagnosis even possible that we'll be referred to the AHT for the rest of any tests etc. Fingers crossed we'll hear from them by the end of the week as to where we go from here.

Keeping everything crossed him.
Well we've had another urine sample taken (direct from his bladder) to check for infection and we're waiting for those results. If it comes back negative (like the vet thinks it will) he's to start on ace inhibitors to prevent kidney damage, and hopefully lower the protein loss. Apparently in a urine sample any measurement over 0.5 is serious and needs checking. His was 4.9 so deff needed attention! Luckily I'd taken him to the vets for something else and this was picked up.
Well just had a call from the vet and my boy is to go onto ace inhibitors to lower the pressure in his kidneys to hopefully prevent anymore protein loss. Fingers crossed these will do the trick

Hi , I have recently lost a 7 month old pup due to a similar issue , she was diagnosed with hypoalbumenia which was a loss of protein from the kidneys. Hope you boy pulls threw and gets better x
Sorry to hear of your loss :( This was only picked up when we visited the vet for other reasons but we're lucky it was as he hasn't any symptoms of kidney problems. Hopefully as we've caught it early he'll be around for a while he's 10yrs old next summer. The vet said it was Glomerula disease (sp?)
