Thornit can be used for this.

Bio-groom ear fresh is my powder of choice, either put a little on the fingers or a dusting on the ear ears and then the hairs stick to the finger and are much easier to pull. You can get it at shows, hub international on line.
I have also used Thornit but for the ease of plucking I thin Bio-groom wins.

I use Thornit for plucking my gangs ears and it works a treat. Sprinkle on, leave for a minute or two and then just pluck away. Fab.

You can also rub some chalk onto your fingers for the same effect - I find it much less 'gritty' than Thornit and does the same job for plucking.  I have a breed that is hand stripped and chalk is useful when I need some extra 'purchase'.  I bought a simple chalk block for a couple of pounds (at the most) from HUB International at a show.

this is the 1st breed weve had that ears need plucking and im so worried im going to hurt her ,ive tried and i dont get much ....how much should i be getting out at a time ,all i keep thinking is shes a baby and im hurting her :(

With both Yorkshire Terriers and Toy Poodles I have always believed in little and often.  It should not hurt.  Even with my old Yorkies, I still have a little pluck a couple of times a week.  I would rather take out  2 hairs and give a cuddle than spend ages at it which you have to do if left too long.  I can never understand pet owners letting the dog groomer do it every 8 weeks.  I think that is cruel and unnecessary.

I don't use anything, just my fingers, and it works because it's done so often that I don't need anything to help me grip.  Even my Beardies get the little and often treatment, although they are the easiest to do.  Nice big lugholes.  I do think it depends on breed, as I find the Yorkies far easier than a Toy Poodle.

white lily, I only use chalk if their ears are a bit greasy as it helps me get hold of the hair more easily.   I agree with JSW - little and often is the key.  I start as soon as they come home so that it becomes part of their normal routine.  It's part of the cuddle and mine seem to see it as part and parcel of receiving affection!!

Some dogs have hairy ears and it isn't a problem others have very few hairs - does your breeder say the ears of your breed do need doing?

thanks jean :0) yes dogs a babe when we got her from the breeder she said she needs to be done shes a bichon and her ears are very hairy??? ive been doing it but i cant seem to get any im wondering if im holding the hair tight enough? her breeder told me about the ear stuf that nums ??? but i cant find any so i was going to use thornit ...so what shell i do just 5mins aday to start with ??? i was worried because her breeder said she could get ear infections if the hair isnt removed x

>so what shell i do just 5mins aday to start with ???

Ouch!  NO!  If you plucked my ears for 5 minutes it would mean that they had been left for weeks on end!  A couple of seconds, and 2 hairs are gone.  Treat dog and forget about it until tomorrow.  Then repeat!

No wonder you think you're hurting her if you are plucking for 5 minutes, her ears must be raw.
