I would really love a westie show puppy does any body know of anyone who has anything suitable I'd quite like a dog and wouldn't mind one that perhaps somebody has run on and now decided its not for them . Any body any ideas ?

I would suggest the kc accredited /assured breeders list as your first point of contact and speak to some of the breeders on the list.

a westie to show is a big commitment as they need to be hand stripped and this really is an art in itself. Also be aware that westies are very popular amongst the backyard/puppy farm breeders so research is essential.

Also contact the westie breed clubs as they should be able to point you in the right direction and will almost certainly have a puppy register.

If you seriously want to show the best thing is to attend a good number of shows, studying the breed, learning which types you like the look of and at the same time networking and showing yourself as someone both interested and willing to learn and therefore be of interest to anyone that may have a dog suitable.

Stooge hit the nail on the head - with our first show dog (pet!) we attended a number of shows first, and places like discover dogs to see what the breed were like and what ones we liked etc. We did this for around two years before finally settling on a litter of which I had researched to no end and needless to say it paid off. We now have two wonderful girls who I wouldn't change for the world!!
