Hi this post has more then likely been said before but I'm new so here goes. my pup (border collie) is now about 13 weeks old and had his final injection yesterday; he's had it quite late because he had kennel cough the 1st visit she the vet advised not to give him the injection for a week. Anyway he had his final one Friday and now is it completely vital I wait till next Friday to take him to or park ect. Because he seems desperate to go some where els then the garden. Sorry for the long dribble but any help will be grate thanks

The pup can't be taken for long walks.  5 minutes per month of pup means your pup would only need a 15 minute walk if he could go out.  I know that he is not of a size that you could carry around just for socialisation.

Many people actually do take pup out before the recommendation, but, of course, this is up to you.

However, even as an adult, it wouldn't be right to let you think that a 3 hour walk will suffice.  My BC would be comfortable on a lot less.  It is not just physical exercise that they need.  You do need to learn how to exercise his brain.  This is a dog that would be totally unhappy if he is not encouraged to think.  How much interaction do you have with the pup indoors?

Seek and find games can be fun, and will tire a pup faster than a walk.  Teach your boy.  :-)

Thanks for that. Its not the long walks to get him tired that I'm after as of yet it just so he can get new sights sounds and smells of the big world :) when were in the house it's things like fetch with his toys lurking him basic obedience, but if there is anything that you think will help with him would be grate as he is my 1st dog (though I have grew up with them most my life) and I'm lurnin just as much as him everyday so any suggestions would be grate

Then I would forget the Park for now until the vaccs have Had a chance to work, but take him outside your house (I've yet to find any passerby that won't stop to talk).

Trips in the car to visit friends for short visits, and if they have healthy adult dogs then some dog socialisation can start.

It's only a week.

Canine socialisation is safer in a class setting, the Park is too unpredictable for a puppy this young, but a toddle on a large bit of grass verge/green where dogs aren't allowed loose will allow him to sniff etc.

My best friend has a spaniel and spaniel mix (both fully vaccinated). I took him round there last week and he loved that but his perents take them to Wales most weekend so I'm planing on going in the week but would it be ok to have him on there street before next week thinking about Wednesday?
