I have a lovely little Cavvie who's 2 and a half years old. He has a long full coat, but has (over the last 6 or 8 months) developed what I can only describe as a "cow-lick" behind his right shoulder. The colour changes from black to white at this point, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
Is there anything I can do about it? I don't show him, he's only a pet, but it just bugs me, as he never looks neat - mind you - he's like a naughty little boy anyway, always picking up crud in his coat!!

Many dogs will have these in their coats, I have seen dachsies with hair the length of their muzzle growing in the wrong direction, referred to by some as a "hunters crest", I don't think there is any known causes. If you weregoing to be showing and there were several that messed with the lie of the coat then this would be a problem.
Humans have similar called a crown of their heads and some times a double crown.
Thanks for your reply - I know about the crown and double crown, but never expected dogs to get them --- Weird!!
One of my pups had a funny crown at the back of his neck, it looks so funny! Perhaps the weight of the hair will help as time goes on?
When filling in the forms for pedigree Welsh ponies you have to copy all markings - blaze, white socks etc onto an outline drawing of a pony. You also have to mark where any whorls or cow licks where hair grows in strange directions. These help with identification of the pony as it gets older.

We often have the little ridges on the muzzle or stop in our breed, they certainly make no difference in the show ring.

I was told that any decent judge would certainly not penalise a 'cowlick'.
