Topic Dog Boards / Health / Old boy being sick
- By mumsy2011 Date 25.01.12 09:30 UTC
My 16yr old boy didn't eat his dinner last night, even rice, pasta chicken or fish, wouldn't touch anything, but was drinking water.I came downstairs this morning to find alot of bright yellow sick, and some had a bit of blood in it.I am taking him to see our vet later today, but am worried about him,as he's not himself, and with his health starting to go downhill in recent months, just wondering if he's had enough, thanks.

So sorry to hear this, but the Vet is the place to go. My fingers are crossed that it is just an upset tum, however if he has had enough I think you will read it in his face, they always manage to tell you. If this is the case then my heart goes out to you, we have all been in this position at some time. But lets hope for you it is not just yet.
Hugs

Any news, how is the poor boy?
- By mumsy2011 Date 27.01.12 12:40 UTC
He was given medication and had some tests done, and got to go back Monday, but he's still not eating(turned away from chicken, rice, cheese and fish) and his backend seems to be going,it looks like he's trying to sit down all the time,so I think his next visit will be his last, unless he perks up over the weekend. It's just having to make the decision,as he still wags his tail.:(((

I'm so sorry :(  Like you say, it's the decision that is so very hard.

If he is no longer enjoying a meal and weakness is getting the better of him he will not be sorry to go.

Very sad to see an oldie go down hill but you have loved and cared for him for all those years and he has had a happy life.

Take care x

I've been checking in to see if there was any news.  I'm sorry to hear about your boy.  Letting my 16 year old go was heart wrenching, so I really feel for you.

The oldies are so precious.  {{{{  HUGS  }}}}

Finding the strength to let go is the hardest thing, although in your heart you know it is the kindest act for your precious boy. He has had a good life and he knows you love him but the time will come for all of us at sometime, and to be allowed to go with dignity is a wonderful end.  My thoughts are with you, just be strong for him and know we are here when you want a shoulder.

Poor old boy, so sorry you are going through a very hard time mumsy2011. It breaks your heart when they still somehow find the energy to care for you by keeping that tail going even when their appetite for everything else goes. Bless those oldies for bringing so much love into our lives.

There's life in the old dog yet!He is now eating all of his meals, and last night was humping one of the younger dogs,he also came out for a run with the rest of the troops today, tail wagging all the time!I keep giving big hugs and he knows we don't want him to leave us yet.

I have been so worried about the lack of replies. So very pleased that your boy is still with you.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 02.02.12 20:38 UTC
It was so similar in how the end came, so quickly, for our Kizi I dreaded to check, well done for him rallying.
- By mumsy2011 Date 02.02.12 20:46 UTC
Thanks,we are glad he's still here, and in good spirits at the moment, but at his age we expect him to go sooner rather than later, and hopefully when that time comes,he'll go without pain or suffering.
