I was in the nearby animal welfare rescue last weekend. Did my usual run past the dogs as five is plenty for me! I had to go up to the cat rehoming unit and as I walked in, I spotted a beautiful white cat looking so sad. He had been there since early September and had had lots of admirers, all of which turned their back on him when they were told he was deaf. Well I have always had white cats, neither of whom were deaf and currently have two indoor cats. I picked him up and he was so soft but so depressed. I decided what harm would another cat be and picked him up two days ago. And the difference a couple of days has nade to him. My own two accepted him without any fuss and the dogs didn't give him a second glance. He hasn't stopped purring since he arrived and is running around the house like a mad cat having fun! He is extremely affectionate and while wary of the dogs, he hasn't shown any aggression. But I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with deaf cats?

Only those that have come into the cattery, but they seem to be very friendly souls.  Good on you for taking the cat on.  

No experience with deaf cats at all I'm afraid - just love that you've taken him on. Wishing you many happy years with your new friend.

Well done for giving him a home, it sounds like he's very happy to be there :-)

BAER. :-) White cats are more likely than any other colour to be deaf, so tend to be checked for it.

Good on you OP for giving the cat a home, It sounds like he's loving it allready. Sorry no experience of an actual deaf cat.

Well I did laugh yesterday as the dogs were snoozing by the fire and heard some unknown noise that must be barked at. They barked etc and the other two cats jumped a mile but the new boy didn't stir from his sleep. One definite advantage:-)

How lovely that he has a nice forever home well done and sounds like he already knows how licky he is and is enjoying himself. I presume he is to be an indoor cat too ?

Yes absolutely. I live by a road so they wouldnt stand a chance. I'm going to put up a secure outdoor enclosure for them in the spring so that they can enjoy some outdoor time in safety. They are all perched on the window now looking out at the busy bird feeder. Torture or heaven!!

That's excellent, if only people realised that this is the way forward instead of leaving cats to play Russian Roulette on the roads.
