Topic Dog Boards / General / The blurring line of kennels and rescue:
- By Miranda Luck [gb] Date 20.01.12 19:53 UTC
Carrying on from the discussions about the rescue organisation (MT), a number of other stories have been mentioned to me recently about boarding kennels who, along with the day to day running of the kennels, also carry out 'rescue'. Some of these occurrences seem pretty straight forward - the occasional owner failing to return to collect their dog, so the kennels rehome it. But others seem a little more curious with tales of boarding kennels rehoming of a number of highly desirable puppies and dogs. Is this just co-incidence, scaremongering or something more underhand? Views welcome.

I think it varies..

Some boarding kennels occasionally get landed with a dog they need to rehome - some win the contract for the local authority to be a pound as well as a commercial boarding outfit , and do some rehoming themselves - some people run a rescues alongside a boarding kennels perfectly legitimately - some run a second hand dog dealers alongside a commercial boarding kennel - some run a pretend 'rescue' which is nothing more than them trying to avoid a commercial breeding licence....

And then for all of these possible permutations, some people do it very well, with total transparency or excellent animal welfare standards, and some people do it absolutely abysmally and of those, some people have no idea they are doing badly, and some people do and couldn't give a rats ass.

Like the boarding kennels that says - we home puppies on behalf of licensed breeders only, we receive a small donation for doing so, as we are self funded rehome rescue this helps us to vet check and medical costs of adult dogs.

Puppies

yorkies male and female overshots jaws £250 each

Yorkie - entropian £150

And this - Is not a rescue dog and is being rehomed to help fund the rescue work of ****** Kennels

Who has a dealer who when I spoke to him in answer to adverts placed in Wales asking to buy litters of puppies or old dogs stated that the would go to a lovely home naming the rescue/rehome centre/boarding kennels - come pet shop as the place they would be going.  The rescue when questioned not surprisingly put the phone down very quickly - I wonder why?
