I'm using this for the first time and have to say I'm really impressed with it. Mum was on it from 6 weeks before whelping and the pups have been on it a week now and are doing really well - I'm amazed at how clean the pups are after eating it!
My query is this.....with my first litter I was feeding 'another' brand but I did a couple of meals of mushy kibble, and then scrambled egg, mince and farleys rusk and goats milk throughout the rest of the day. I havent dont this with the RC starter, the pups have 4 meals of it mushed with water (does take a while to mush down!) and then some welpi milk at bedtime. Do those of you that feed RC starter just feed that by itself or do you swap some of the meals for something else like the scambled egg or mince?
The pups will be 5 weeks on Sunday so I guess by 6 weeks they should be eating it dry and then be moved on to the RC junior between 6-7 weeks?
Before 4 weeks my toy breed are eating minced steak, poached white fish, scrambled egg etc. But then, I have never fed a total "complete", it's always been half wet, half dry.
My toy breed have access to Fish4Puppies all the time, and are eating and crunching well by 4 weeks, I've never added water.
I used the starter but only 2 meals per day, the other 2 were scrambled egg or meat, they stayed on it till 8 weeks old and went on to mini junior,Mum got to finish the starter to get her back in shape quicker, by 12 weeks when the pup who wasn't staying left they were on 4 meals of kibble which was reduced to 3 meals to 6 months then 2 meals or free fed for life.
I now have everyone on Fish4dogs so will be trying their puppy food for Mum and the pups next time and use the salmon mousse for variety.
I used Beta puppy years ago , then Royal canin starter ever since .I do put down raw tripe, scrambled eggs and rice pudding , not just the starter.I agree the pups are clean after it.I tend to think like humans not every pup absorbs calcium etc from the same source ,
