Quite a while a go I posted about a friend of mine who had a german shepherd who spent a lot of time in her cage. Well this poor girl was re-homed when the family decided she was too boistorous in the garden and might knock their daughter over!!!!

Just after christmas I had a text message from my friend to say they were having a lab pup, she said they had gone to a reputable breeder and would be picking the pup up at the end of January. Having not spoken to her face to face I assumed that meant she had done some research, all health tests done and pup chosen carefully etc.

This afternoon I met one of my friends daughters in town who tells me they picked the pup up on Monday. When I asked how old he was now I was told 6 weeks tomorrow!!!! I can't believe it, they have obviously NOT gone to a reputable breeder, I can see the same thing happening with this pup that happened to the last one as they couldn't have researched very well, it seems that this litter was available when they wanted a pup. Nothing changes. Poor pup.

My cairn pup is 6months old now and I had been researching for months, recommended health tests are done and he is very very much wanted. I thought they understood the importance of a reputable breeder but obviously not.

Thank you for listening to my moans, I actually feel quite upset about it all and I'm not sure why.

Just so par for the course, often they know what they should do but that litter was closer or the right time, or £50 cheaper, etc etc

I too was quite upset last night, saw an owner who has a rescue dog. He is lovely but before she got him he was fostered by someone who had about 9 other dogs! He is so used to playing with other dogs all the time that he looses concentration on his owner especially if other dogs are saying hello to each other on the lead.

She has a lady who picks him up once a week for a 'walk' the lady then picks up some more dogs and goes to an enclosed field where they all get let off and play together. Apparently they all take a turn on the lead and have to watch the others play, and then they get to go off and play again. I explained that this was not helping her little dog at all, as all the behaviour he displays when being kept on the lead, whining, barking, lunging etc is then rewarded as soon as he is let off to play again. He needs to learn that not all other dogs are for playing with.

I asked her last night if she had attended to the situation, and she said oh yes, he stays on the lead for half the time and then gets let off.........argh, probably even worse and she wonders why he can't concentrate with other dogs around!

Also had a new dog start, a beardie, lovely gentle dog, but 8 months old and has never left the place where he was born (in the breeders kennels) apparently noone wanted him as his mother chewed his ear off when he was a pup. The new owners are lovely, but have work to do as the poor dog is petrified when being asked to leave the house.....as he has never seen traffic or lots of people etc.... I think he has landed on his feet now, and  the owners are used to having rescue dogs as they have a lot of work to do.
