I too was quite upset last night, saw an owner who has a rescue dog. He is lovely but before she got him he was fostered by someone who had about 9 other dogs! He is so used to playing with other dogs all the time that he looses concentration on his owner especially if other dogs are saying hello to each other on the lead.
She has a lady who picks him up once a week for a 'walk' the lady then picks up some more dogs and goes to an enclosed field where they all get let off and play together. Apparently they all take a turn on the lead and have to watch the others play, and then they get to go off and play again. I explained that this was not helping her little dog at all, as all the behaviour he displays when being kept on the lead, whining, barking, lunging etc is then rewarded as soon as he is let off to play again. He needs to learn that not all other dogs are for playing with.
I asked her last night if she had attended to the situation, and she said oh yes, he stays on the lead for half the time and then gets let off.........argh, probably even worse and she wonders why he can't concentrate with other dogs around!
Also had a new dog start, a beardie, lovely gentle dog, but 8 months old and has never left the place where he was born (in the breeders kennels) apparently noone wanted him as his mother chewed his ear off when he was a pup. The new owners are lovely, but have work to do as the poor dog is petrified when being asked to leave the house.....as he has never seen traffic or lots of people etc.... I think he has landed on his feet now, and the owners are used to having rescue dogs as they have a lot of work to do.
