Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Won't eat bone

since losing Ben last month, my other two raw fed dogs have gone right off bone, Ben was always very keen on bone and must have encouraged the other two to eat it, now though they've hardly touched it. The DAF food I feed does already have ground bone it it, but not enough to keep their teeth in good nick or to give them a firm poo, any suggestions on how to encourage them back to the bone ?

They are fed lamb rib and spine mainly.

co incidently, ive just had a d a f delivery today!I expected the chicken to have bone in,do the other meats too?Would their  chicken wings and necks be enough to keep their teeth clean? So far,of all the companies ive tried,D A F have the best bone supply(Ive had a right job cramming them all in the freezer!),So I wonder if its worth you trying another type of bone than lamb, think they do pork too?Good luck, and Im really sorry about Ben.

Thanks :-)

Their other stuff does have bone, except the tripe, I think it's 10% bone and 10% offal in all of them, I didn't know it had at all as they don't advertise the fact, you have to e mail them.
I get my bones free and fresh from the butcher and lambs pretty much it I'm afraid, I could get some beef but it always seems very hard, my previous dog had slab fractures on his teeth from beef bones so I'm a bit reluctant to use them .

I'd give them a bone with plenty of meat to tear off. (breast of lamb, really meaty lamb neck, pork hock etc) and give it as their meal, if they get into ripping and tearing to get the meat off they may well just carry on chewing and hopefully discover they enjoy it!

Good thinking Agilabs ! I'll see what i can get today, I'll leave them a bit longer before I feed them so they're hungrier. When I had Ben he'd be queuing up for his bone and the other two just followed his lead, talk about seeing green cheese lol.

Would it also be worth leaving the bone out of the fridge overnight before you feed it?  Just enough to get some of those smells going from when meat isn't quite as fresh as it should be but nowhere near long enough that it actually goes over.  I know that my two seem to love the slightly older meat and it might be just enough to give yours some enthusiasm.

It doesn't seem to matter how ripe the bone is, they usually end up lying in their bowl ( the bone, not the dog ) for a day anyway.

I got some thin bits of Oxtail yesterday which they've eaten, i'll keep plugging away at it.
